The Goodest Boy and his victory lap against ALS-

1332473675.dogbomb_dscn1187

Vet tech, runner, fursuiter, grease monkey, motorcycle hysteric and full time nutjob. ALS can kiss my fuzzy butt. I ain’t scared! –DogBomb

Words on a profile that are not even a shadow of the figure that Tony “DogBomb” Barrett would create when he was diagnosed with ALS in March of 2018. Furries, for all the negative backlash they receive have often shown light in many ways throughout their communities. Whether that be placing smiles on the faces of adults and children alike, raising money for animal organizations through their conventions, or, in the case of Tony (DogBomb), raising money and awareness for a very serious disease…Furries have always been there to lend their helping paw.

Tony not only shed light on his condition by documenting it as it was happening, but he showed how something so terrible and devastating did not have to bring a person down. ALS is very real, and very serious…but Tony never let it stop him from loving and living his life in the only ways he knew how. Wherever he went he continued spreading positivity and love, all while educating the public on why taking action and making an effort towards research was important and even crucial if a cure was to be found for future generations.

He took something terminal in stride as he continued to walk, boat, ride, and sit down with friends all the while confessing that he shouldn’t be doing such things, but he had a point to prove, even with his doctor’s disapproval. Through laughs and moments of honesty, and even a few moments of vulnerability- DogBomb had nothing to hide from the community he loved so much, and all he ever asked is that we pay it forward, and keep shining that light after he had gone.

“No one should be broken up over my passing. Sadness or anger at ALS is appropriate, but there is nothing to grieve about when you consider the ride that I was afforded. Wag every day, please. Hug your dogs and your friends. Smile when you think of me. No regrets.”

—DogBomb

-About ALS-

(Provided here is just a summary but you can read all about ALS: HERE )

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neuro-degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons  die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.

With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, people may lose the ability to speak, eat, move and breathe.

ALS usually strikes people between the ages of 40 and 70, and it is estimated there are more than 20,000 Americans who have the disease at any given time. ALS can affect anyone, and can also run in families. While scientists have made leaps and bounds in their discoveries and treatment of ALS, there is no cure.

“People often ask me if I’m scared. For whatever reason, I’m not scared at all. I’ve never been afraid of much in this life, except for the thought of losing my independence, which absolutely terrifies me.”

—DogBomb

-A Mutt’s Journey-

Tony gained attention in the fandom in August of 2010 when a picture started circulating of him in his Fursuit standing next to a wheelchair user. This moment he recorded as “Courage on Two Wheels” on his Furaffinity.  This was the moment where Tony showed his loving and honest character, saying that people always saw him as “courageous” for Fursuiting in public, whereas the true courage came from the people such as the girl in the wheelchair (named Sarah).

“As the crowds parted to make way for the upright canine, a young
lady in a wheelchair caught my attention.
Unable to speak, or even wave for that matter, she used her beautiful
eyes to lure me over.

She was alone in her chair, body twisted and lacking in coordination,
betraying its owner with a vengeance. She was bereft of speech, couldn’t
hold a pen and lacked the motor skills to write if she could, yet when I
held her hand in my paw, her eyes danced. They spoke volumes.

I spent the better part of half an hour in this angel’s company.
She felt my claws and leaned her head against my fur.
We watched the throngs hurry past, the waves wash over the shore
and the gulls shriek and take flight.
A peaceful island in a sea of activity.

Eventually, she released my paw and made a motion with her head.
It was time for me to bid farewell.
I gave her shoulder a pat and I saw that terrific smile flash
across her face. I felt calm and blessed by her company.”

DogBomb as said in “Courage on Two Wheels”

His journey to finding the fandom was somewhat similar to my own as he found it after a friend merely referred to him as being a Furry. I personally saw nothing else about this moment in Tony’s life, but it’s something fun to imagine as I have personally gone from living under that rock to falling down the rabbit hole.

It was March in 2018 when Tony was diagnosed with ALS and given an estimated life-span of 1-3 years. The disease varies from person-to-person…and as to how quickly his physical state would deteriorate no one knew. But “You can’t keep a good dog down”.

1542814852.dogbomb_image-9

Since his diagnosis, Tony has been adamant on raising money and awareness for ALS, all the while making more ‘personal’ contributions to help ALS research. On November 10th, 2018- Tony and others marched a mile in the name of ALS research and raised $34,000 for the cause! As Tony exclaimed: “The organizers were blown away by the exuberant fun that a whole mass of fursuiters brings to an event. It was the first time that the local ALSA reached their fundraising goal and it was the biggest walk ever.
Yeah, furries did that.

Tony also participated in a clinical trial in an attempt to stop the disease. And though he was declined in becoming an organ donor because of his ALS, he did sign over his body to science for use as a cadaver. Even then, he showed his bright and humorous side, wanting nothing more than to provide a few good laughs to doctors-to-be.

It was then on March 29th 2019 that Tony announced he would be ending his life on his own terms- refusing to let the disease take him, and that the date he had chosen was April 5th, 2019. In that time he traveled to have drinks with friends, say his last goodbyes, all the while still spreading light and positivity throughout the fandom. DogBomb was not defeated by ALS but rather, the fandom agreed that the goodest of boys had taken the victory lap on it all:

-Furries fighting ALS and Stigma-

Furries have always been the butt-end of the joke (sexual pun intended? Unintended?) when it comes to society. We know that people see us just as the weirdos in the animal costumes that may or may-not do questionable things behind closed doors. But if there’s one thing that Furries come together on despite fandom drama and spite from the outside…it’s fighting the good fight for a good cause.

Not only did Furries raise over 30k for ALS back in 2018, but on March 24th 2019 Furries took to the streets in a marathon once more to raise money for ALS research and to spread awareness. Spear-headed by Tony as “Team Smelly Mutt”, they raised over $110,000 for charity and continue to raise money for ALS by selling art, doing streams, selling stickers, t-shirts, and other goods all in the name of “DogBomb” and his message:

“There are some that view furries as a punchline, but I can tell you that the ALS association takes us very seriously. The fandom has been an absolute fund raising force, and no group has ever risen to the occasion like you all. Over $100,000 raised so far. Let that sink in…

Almost every single person at the meet and greet had questions about what furry is, and there is a huge buzz about our participation in the marathon. Perceptions are changing, my friends, and that’s due to your hard work. Am I proud to be a furry? You’re damn right I am.”

—DogBomb

…these acts of kindness, charity, determination, and overall love for a member of the community has helped in shedding light on the Furry Fandom as a whole, and really brought back what the fandom is all about: teamwork, inclusiveness, positivity, creativity, a place where anyone and everyone can find their place and belong. This fandom is a fandom of LOVE, and we shine brightest when we are all together working towards a common goal.

Tony “DogBomb” has given permission to use the likeness of his character but only if those proceeds go to ALS research. And, if you wanna send a few bucks to help out, you can still do so by checking out Team Smelly Mutt’s page: HERE or by visiting http://weboc.alsa.org

-Time too short but a whole life lived-

If it was one thing that DogBomb asked of others (outside of being kind to one another) it was to live. It was to live and do the things you loved, tell others how much they mean to you, and to sit back with a cold one. But most of all, he asked that others not mourn his death, but rather celebrate his life and smile.

After his time came and went and he crossed that rainbow bridge, Twitter went dark in honor of DogBomb. Profile pics faded to black with the rainbow lei to represent his journey into the next life, with hashtags calling for a toast for DogBomb with several people speaking up about their amazing interactions with this man who was an inspiration (and still is) to so many.

I myself never got to meet him, and only this year did I start following his journey, not knowing how drawn in I would become, nor how deeply I would feel the loss of someone who is technically a total stranger. That’s part of the reason why this blog has taken so long to write…because the words just couldn’t form in my mind as I can’t speak on experience about any of this…only that watching this journey further affirmed why I love the fandom, further inspired me to continue writing about the fandom, and it restored my faith in both humanity and the fandom. It also caused me quite a few tears before my work shift that I can not say I am ashamed of…because even through text I could feel the love radiating off of the goodest boy, and all of those touched by his spirit and determination to kick ALS’ butt!

So while it may be a few days late, I think I will snuggle my loved one just a little bit closer tonight, and I think I will pop open a beer. And when I get paid next, you will be seeing a little donation (even if not much) from this little fuzzbutt.

Happy trails, Peaceful Paws!

“SonicFox” just won a gaming award!

sonicfox-1544152821162_1280w

As a passionate gamer, I found myself watching the game awards on Mixer when the nominations for “Best Esports Player” came up. Sure enough, a fellow Furry ended up taking the trophy…now called “the Lebron James of sitting” by the announcer.

Dominique McLean also known in the Furry and gaming communities as “SonicFox” has been in the spotlight several times. As a gamer he is a 4-time EVO champion from 2014-2018 in games such as Injustice, Mortal Kombat, and Dragon Ball FighterZ. In the Furry community, he is the gamer that plays in his fursuit. At least, that’s how I know of him.

But it’s an exciting day in the Furry Fandom when we have someone that can represent us in such a public light. Millions upon millions are tuned into Mixer as it streams the gaming awards LIVE, and that’s not including the hundreds that are there in attendance. It was a proud moment for furries, and a proud moment for SonicFox as he could hardly get words out between his nervous laughter.

Still taking the stage in his fursuit, he thanked the Furry Community, his gaming team, his mentors, and noted how it was never about winning for him…it was always about enjoying the games. He also mentioned how his intentions of winning were always to help others in need including a close-friend whose Father was suffering from Cancer.

He also thanked his LGBTQ+ friends in being part of that spectrum as well.

But one thing I didn’t like in his speech?

The politics…

Jokes are common during awards as everyone is there to have a good time and bond over the thing they enjoy (in this case, it is games). However, not all gamers are the same. Black, white, brown…gay, straight, trans, cis, we all comes in different shapes and sizes.

So while I can applaud our fellow Furry for his accomplishments and the recognition he has brought us in being “unafraid” and unashamed in being himself (especially on stage)- I can’t exactly applaud his need to express being gay, Furry, and black…with the need to say afterwards that he is “everything Republicans hate”.

Hopefully this can be chalked up to his nervousness…but it didn’t really garner a huge reaction, and I’m waiting for the headlines to pop up talking about this unnecessary remark in his speech as it was really in poor taste. It was a cringy moment for sure, and his words do not define all Furries and their views…yet as a fursuiter and now an award-winner…his voice will be plastered upon the vast majority of us until this moment is forgotten.

This is why we must remember that even though we do not reflect all Furries, often we are chalked up to being one-and-the-same in how we think and how we act. This especially becomes apparent when you read about Furries in the media, and how it classifies us all in one way even when we are very unique. So the people who are most-often heard such as the popufurs, the Furrytubers, and now the award-winners…they really have to be careful in what they do and/or say, because it can come back on the fandom for better or for worse.

Still…congrats to SonicFox- and thank you for never hiding who you are and what you love!

It would seem that a fellow Furry has gone missing…and a police report has been filed.

As the image states above, Paul Christopher Beyer (Furry name: Skitch) went missing in California before he was supposed to attend BLFC-several friends have confirmed they didn’t see him at BLFC, so his disappearance before the con seems more likely.

There have been some saying they might have seen him in a group photo or two (meaning he made it to the convention) but this has not yet been confirmed.

We ask that anyone that attended BLFC check their photos to see if he might have been there…and:

Anyone with information should contact authorities immediately!

I know that it is the friend that is looking for him, but, this is not always safe. We don’t know who this friend is, nor if they have some alternate intentions. We don’t want to assume but, there have been cases in the past where abusive exes or stalkers have used a missing person poster in order to find someone that was avoiding them.
So, for the safety of the missing person, please notify the police if you know his whereabouts or have any clues on where he might be.

We don’t know his reasons for going under the radar…and truthfully, it’s not really our business. But, as a person…I know that I would want him to be safe and sound.

As far as we know, this person is either not very close to and/or doesn’t really have any family that would know their whereabouts and/or would be able to give us any information. Everything we know will be posted in the updates.
Their roommate is the only other person actively searching and looking for leads at the moment and most info is coming from them.

We can only hope that Skitch makes it back home safely….

This blog will be updated as I receive more information!

  • [Update #1]: He was last seen in a black Honda Civic. 90’s model. The police have his plates. Still nothing.
  • [Update #2]: His roommate called his manager, said he hasn’t shown up in 3 weeks and thought he quit.
  • [Update #3]: Rumors have been floating around that this fur was found. The rumors are not true. Authorities have reached out to his Father, but the Father doesn’t know where he is either. Please remember to contact the authorities if you know anything….NOT the roommate.
  • [Update #4]: The missing fur was found as confirmed by the roommate via a picture. Dogpatch Press also confirmed. No, we were not given a reason for the disappearance but we can at least know that this fur is safe. Please respect his privacy during this time.

#bringemmaback2018 – Incident at BLFC

32294370_162558711261095_6981190098054283264_n

Biggest-Little-Furcon, a furry convention taking place in Nevada for well over 5 years now. It sported over 3,500 attendees last year and raised $36,000 for charity. A lot of my favorite suiters attend this con yearly, and I will admit that I have never heard anything bad about it.

But this year the convention has taken the Furry Fandom by storm due to a bullying incident surrounding a girl named Emma.

Emma was attending the con and gathering around for the furuit photo shoot that takes place before/after every fursuit parade. That’s when she was approached by two mice that started to bully her about her fursuit. The young woman was so embarrassed that she ran out without her Father saying that she hated being a Furry and that she did not want to be in the fandom anymore. Here is the story as told by a witness:

Now, I’m not one to go around spreading unnecessary Furry drama. Bad things happen in the fandom all the time…BUT, bullying is NEVER okay. The Furry fandom is a very accepting place. We often welcome in everyone and do not judge backgrounds, illnesses, lifestyles, etc. But if there is one thing the Furry fandom is NOT tolerant of…it’s bullies.

This little girl loves furries and just wanted to be part of the con in her fursuit. It does not matter that she was wearing a maskimal…it should not matter that she didnt have full sleeves or paws…or anything like that.
As a fandom, we have to remember that this is a place in which we show our creativity! In this fandom, some people buy their suits, and some people make them. Some people are full-suiters, and some only wear partials. There are those still trying to afford a whole suit, so maybe they are just wearing a head.

Some people at conventions dress in tails and ears, and some people just wear their regular clothes. It’s the fact that we can all be varied and yet come together to celebrate the same things that make us the amazing fandom that we are!!!

But hey, at least this story has a happy ending!

After Emma was bullied and ran out of the con, the Father and witnesses banded together to get her back at BLFC. People started rallying being hashtags such as #emmaisawesome & #bringemmaback2018 in order to show their support on multimedia platforms.

Emma’s instagram was blown up with nothing but kind words from those that wanted her to still have the best Furry convention of her life, and art thread-after-art thread have been popping up in Furry groups across facebook gathering art for Emma of her cute tiger sona.

As for the mice, at least one of them has been pointed out by Emma (to the con staff which is proper procedure) and their badge has been taken from them. Their names have not been made public for good reason, and for their sake…I really hope it stays that way. Hopefully this will teach them a lesson about making fun of little girls.

Let this be a lesson to anyone that thinks making fun of someone is okay that there are consequences to your actions! Keep your negative thoughts to yourself. No one has any more entitlement to be in this fandom than the other person. Material possessions do NOT make you any more of a Furry than anyone else. Now Emma is getting the love and support she deserves from this amazing fandom, and the bullies will be sitting at home missing the rest of an amazing convention.

But, if you would also like to show Emma some love and support, you can find her official Twitter handle:

Making History at the Alamo City Furry Invasion 2017!

acfi2

“It’s a sleepy day in the sleepy town of Fur City Bluff…” begins the narrative of ‘The Furry, Furry West’ within the ACFI con-book. The page sets the tone, giving us insight to a dusty town under the watchful eye of the Sheriff and his team, to a place where there is a fair coming up, and the looming threat of the Red-Mask-Gang.

Boots, badges, masks, and moneybags…this was the stage for San Antonio’s first-ever Furry Convention.

As someone living in Texas, I first heard of the San Antonio community back in 2016. I had just gone to a comic-con in Alamo City to meet the Power Rangers and I took my fursuit head with me. I thought this would be a great opportunity to suit for a little while, and get used to wearing my character in a crowded place…Needless to say that there were not as many furries there as I thought, and I quickly became intimidated. Long-story-short, this got me noticed (after the con) by a local who mentioned the furmeets happening within the area, and she asked me to add her on facebook so that she might invite me to said-events so I could attend.

While I was never really in the area to go to any of the meets (as I live over 2 hours away) I did research on them. This lead me to videos, and photos, to chatting with Adam King occasionally, and it really gave me an idea of what a Furry Community really looked like. Never did I think that such a tight-knit community could evolve into something so much greater…but after this weekend, I realized that myself along with 737 other people made history as we celebrated and experienced San Antonio’s new Furry Convention!

  • Standing out from all the rest:
—Since there is already a Furry Convention held in Texas, a lot of people were wondering how ACFI stood apart. On the Official Website, their statement said: “We are working to bring more of the fandom to the state of Texas. We believe that by holding Furry Invasion on the dates we do, we will be offering more options to those that wish to participate in furry conventions rather than competing for attendees with limited time and resources.”
There were other ways in which ACFI tried to distinguish itself as well. First was with a narrative: not just the one written in the con-book…this was a “live narrative” that followed the story from the con-book and would pop up during events around the convention. It followed the takeover of the town by the Red-Mask-Gang and the efforts to stop them. It ended with a ransom being collected to free one of the staff at the closing ceremonies, and then ended with a cliff-hanger when we learned that someone had taken the safe-box. This narrative would then pick up at ACFI 2018.

Also, to set itself apart…the con-book was also made to be something like a yearbook. Attendees could have people sign their books or use the spaces to fill in their favorite memories. All of which I thought was an amazing and unique idea that would appeal to a large amount of those going.

  • Benefits of a brand-new convention:
—There are several benefits to participating in a newer convention. Some reasons might be more selfish than others but it’s still fun to think about. I think the more ‘selfish’ reason is that you get noticed a lot more and its much easier to be social in a smaller crowd. One thing I noticed about TFF was that there was already established ‘groups’ of friends…and there was so much going on, it was often hard to get pictures, harder to stop and socialize, and it was much harder to stand out. But, with a smaller convention…you get noticed more often which means more pictures, more hugs, more people you actually get to talk to and get to know.

But, the main reason that I like the idea of a new and smaller convention is because you get to see how it will change! You get to see the convention grow and evolve into something bigger, something better, something greater than you ever imagined…and you do so knowing what the first-ever convention looked like. You are written in as part of that convention’s history, and it’s something really neat to think about. I think it makes those memories in particular stand out all-the more.

Fursuit Parade- Group Photo 2017
  • Breaking records:
—ACFI ended up placing 2nd place for first-year attendance. There were 737 furries that attended this convention with 100 fursuiters. We raised over $1000 for charities, and this all stemmed from only 200 people originally being invited to the con. So, while we may not have placed first, there were still records broken which ACFI should be proud of!

  • Helping Charity:
—This year, ACFI chose a local charity called: Pets Alive!
Their mission is that they are a life-saving organization that only rescues cats/dogs that have been selected for euthanasia. They are working hard to make San Antonio a no-kill community which is something I think we can all get behind! This organization provides a neonatal kitten nursery, parvo-ward, ringworm ward, medical clinic, foster and adoption programs, and a transport program- as well as other amazing things!

ACFI was able to raise over $1000 for charity and if YOU would like to help this organization, links will be provided down below.

Rune giving high-fives
  • Bringing smiles to people’s face:
—I have always said that while Furries have become more normalized than they were before, there is still a lot of stigma surrounding the fandom. That is why I think that conventions are really important. It is a chance for us to mingle with the general public…to show them what we are about, and to really make a positive impression on the surrounding community. I loved walking off the elevators and the hotel staff asking for pictures. I also loved all the kids running around, asking for hugs and high-fives. I always love seeing the smiles that fursuits put on everyone’s faces. It shows me that we are setting the right example and really putting the fandom in the right light. Furries, to me, means fun and happiness…that is why I love dressing up in a fursuit for conventions such as this one.

  • Scheduling Errors:
—Since it was a new con, one has to expect that things like scheduling might get a little out of hand. I guess that there was an issue with the schedule being printed in the book versus what was on the website. The schedule of panels that was posted on the website was correct, but, the schedule posted within the con-book were incorrect. This lead to a lot of people missing their events as well as some events having been cancelled that people were trying to attend ( as well as events overlapping and such). It was not so much ‘bad’ as it was inconvenient…and luckily, we still managed to make most of what we had planned to do.

  • Very Small and Understaffed:
—New Conventions are very small, and so one can not predict what may or may-not be there. At this con, there were a few vendors, but nothing on the scale of TFF or Anthrocon. Same as with the panels. They were small and kept simple. There are not so many rooms to utilize at the El Tropicano so panels were few and far in-between, but what they did have to offer was still fun and would still appeal to a majority of their attendees.
However, the bigger problem was the fact that ACFI was obviously understaffed. I often saw people running around like crazy, there was mixed-info on what was happening at any given time, and sometimes the staff did not know what was happening at all. The Fursuit Parade was one of the biggest examples where the time got pushed back twice, and staff did not know what to do with us in the meantime. People in suit were getting hot and had no idea what was happening…and no one really had any answers for us. There was a booth where they were asking people to volunteer for teardown, and my wife and I (as well as my group) put their names down because they really had no one and we did not want to think that they would be there all night working if they did not get a little more help.

Short staff and poor communication between the staff was also apparent in the closing ceremonies where, they asked for shaving cream pies and a tarp…only to then get the pies but no tarp because: “No one asked for it”. Small mistakes, but things that can definitely be improved upon for next year.

  • Etc:
—One thing I find that was also poorly coordinated was the group photo for the fursuit parade, and then seating for the dance competition. When they smooshed us all together for the group photo, my buddy and I already knew we would not be seen. There was no lift for the photographer so there was no way that everyone was getting in. The room was much too small. Sure enough, when the group photo was released…people were sad because they were nowhere to be found.
The same could be said (in a sense) for the dance competition. My wife was standing behind my chair and though she got to enjoy the show, I saw more of the judges than I did the dancers until finally enough seats opened so that I could move in closer. The room was just too small for all those chairs…and it made it very difficult for short people like me to see. This same scenario could apply to the opening and closing ceremonies. I thought the narratives were hilarious but I could not see them and could barely hear them. I could barely see people getting a pie in the face at the closing ceremonies even though I was near the front.

Another small complaint happened before the convention…
I was told via the team that there was nothing I needed for the convention except an ID card. I asked them whether I needed a confirmation e-mail (and whether I would get one) and they said ‘no’. But, the first day that I arrive, I am asked about a confirmation e-mail and whether or not I had one. Then I have to go through a registration process AGAIN just to get my badge and bag. It seemed like this took a lot of unnecessary time and, I feel like this is something they should fix for the next convention.

Also, I contacted the department about the use of “props” – I contacted the team via their website and through the facebook page which said they typically reply within an hour. I even messaged Adam King himself since I had friended him on facebook. I got no reply from any of the 3 outlets. The question about registration I had received in a day…but a question about props got no response. So, if they are not going to respond to questions about it, they need to at least include cosplay props and such as a section within their code of conduct since I could not find it anywhere.

  • Suggestions:

—The Headless Lounge needs to be bigger or at least needs more water and more “trees” for the fursuit heads. One is just not enough.

—Seating for the Dance Competition should not include chairs unless they are in the back- suiters should be warned of this ahead of time so they can make whatever adjustments they need.

—People doing the narratives need a microphone, and narratives should maybe just get their own panel or their own little event? Just seemed weird how they were shoved into opening and closing ceremonies, although the ransom thing was hilarious.

—I think next year should focus on getting more staff and working to make better communication between the teams.

—Code of conduct needs to include a section on cosplay props ( as there currently is none)

—ACFI needs to work on getting back to people messaging them through the website with questions (and messaging their facebook page as well). Also, I was given some false information which made my process of getting through registration longer than necessary. This is also something that needs to be fixed for next year if possible.

Mummy Furs!

  • Favorite Memories:
—ACFI really was a blast, even with all the snags. I have a lot of amazing memories from it, so it is really hard to narrow down my favorites. My biggest and most favorite memory would have to be the Drag Show! Slay Queen was amazing and it was so much fun!!! I was grinning like a goober the entire time and I really hope they continue to bring them back for years to come!!!

My second favorite moment was actually making a new friend! We ran into @thatstupidsnowfox and he asked to tag along with us. Then we ended up spending a huge majority of the con together and he made for some amazing company. He is an artist and his work is amazing, so if you wanna check it out, his Twitter will be listed down below!!! But it was really great meeting someone new, and really developing what could be a lasting friendship with someone else in the fandom. We had a lot of laughs and adventures together, so here’s hoping we can meet up at cons in the future!

My third favorite memory was getting to be mummies. There was a panel where people volunteered to be wrapped up as mummies and the other people did the wrapping. In Rune, I got covered in paper towels and toilet paper and then attempted to walk in it. Everyone got a lot of giggles out of it, and we all had a blast walking around like monsters! My wife, Captain, and even my new buddy Nick got to be mummified. We all got a kick out it!

  • Least-favorite Memories:
—I can not really say that there was a part of the convention that I “didn’t like” because there was nothing that was really ‘bad’ so much as it was probably just short or poorly planned. So, this one was really hard. But I guess if I had to pick something, I would say my least favorite part of the convention was actually the fursuit parade.
So, usually the parades look better on YouTube…people add music and make them seem magical and fun. But, in reality they are quiet, kind of awkward if no one is cheering, and they tucker out the fursuiters. But this one was silent, awkward, and also extremely short. Not to mention it got delayed a lot…so it just made for a lot of unnecessary confusion. But I think that is something that will be fixed in the future, and it will be better once we get more attendees to go, and there are more suiters participating.

(From Left to Right): Captain, Omnom, Splat, Rune, Escap’e
  • Conclusion:
—It was amazing laying in bed after the convention and looking at my wife as we talked about all the things that made this convention special. This was her first convention with me, it was also her first time being in a fursuit, and that’s when we realized that we were part of something special. By being there at that first convention, we were part of ACFI’s history.

We both agreed that this convention is something special, and, we can only see it getting bigger and better in the future. We already plan to attend for 2018 and we wanna see what new things it brings to the table. We want to support this convention and really help it grow. We wanna keep making memories and look back fondly to this time when it was all new and all starting out.

so, if you’re in the Texas area, ACFI is worth checking out and taking the time to see. The El Tropicano is great hotel, and as the convention grows, we can only imagine what new venues might host us in the future!!! But, give it a go and I think you will have a lot of fun.

But, as always…what do YOU think? Did you go to ACFI? What was your first impression of the convention? What did you love about it and what did you dislike about it? Where do you think they should focus their improvements? As always, let me know your thoughts and opinions in the comment-section down below. Also, if you got any pictures of myself (Rune), Escap’e, Captain, or our friend Nick…feel free to link those to me in the comment-section as well.

Thank you all so much for reading. I will see you all in the next blog 😉

BioMutant: A fuzzy-new RPG!

biomutant_hero-0

Originally, when I heard about BioMutant, I was not sure whether or not it should be featured on my Furry Blog or my Gaming Blog— so I just went ahead and decided that it should be featured on both!

So, the last time I ever saw cute, little, fuzzy creatures being the main stars of ANY console RPG, it was actually when I learned about TERA. Did I ever play it? No…
But, for those who love the MMO-scene, and especially for furries, this was a huge deal. When it comes to RPGs on consoles, I do not ask for much. I do not care the race of my characters so long as there is a bit of customization involved (even if it is just a difference in your appearances based on weapon or armor equipped), and if the game has a deep-story, well, I am all set.

If I want character customization, I just stick to my PC-MMORPGS like World-of-Warcraft or Guild Wars 2…but I must say that after reading about BioMutant, I am actually curious to see what more it will have to offer in the future, and, with it being on the XBOXone, I am actually considering making this a part of my purchase wish-list when it hits the market-shelves.

  • So what is BioMutant?

”THQ Nordic revealed BioMutant, an “open-world, post-apocalyptic kung fu fable,” for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.”

—But we want more of an explanation than that, right?

Well, we do not know who these raccoon-like creatures are, where they originated, or anything like that but, according to the Official Website for the game, we know that the Tree of Life is DYING.

The main life-source for this world has been contaminated, and now it is up to your character to save the world? Or can it even be saved? According to the website there are divided tribes which must now be re-united to face off against the great evils coming from the root of the plague-stricken tree…buuuuuut that’s all the developers seem to be leaking about the main story.

  • What makes the game so unique?

—The game itself is supposed to be a unique twist on 3rd person combat. The main allure to the game will be the way in which your character utilizes their own fighting style. These little creatures learn combat from various Masters scattered across the land. You can mix-ad-match kung-fu combos which is supposed to keep the combat new and always something fresh so that it never gets boring.

But, hand-to-hand combat is not the only thing that can be used to defeat the monsters of this world. There is a weapon crafting system…allowing your characters to mix-and-match parts to create unique weapons which can be used to defeat enemies as well. Articles such as the one written by “Polygon” suggest that while the weapon-system may seem cool…the main focus of the game will be the mastery of the kung-fu styles and really getting up-close-and-personal with your opponents.

Lastly, there are the “powers”. These are harder to explain and while they can be used for various things including fighting, this also seems to tie in with the way character customization will work.

  • So what are these Mutations?

—The game is called BioMutant, right? So how does Mutations work in this world? Well, according to the official website…as you traverse this work, radioactive substances, bio-contamination, as well as other chemicals will allow you to re-code your genetic structure to unlock attributes. These attributes change your appearances such as giving you long claws, barbed tails, and other things. Other attributes are not so much seen…but it is said you will be able to unlock things such as Telekenisis and Levitation which is sure to change the way you play the game. Some things may make combat easier while other might be used strictly for traversing the world in brand-new ways. But, not much else has been said or shown on this development.

As far as other character customization options, there has been nothing shown, thus, I do not think there is anything on this just yet (and there might not be). All character customization might stay strictly to the gear and the mutations.

  • Is it an MMO?

—Though screenshots have shown multiple furry-creatures in one frame, this does not seem to be an MMORPG of any sort. It is not being advertised as such. I think it might be cool if it were, but with all the stuff being incorporated, I think that keeping it a single-player experience is for the best.

biomutant_screenshot_01_1024x576

  • An Open World…

—There is so little known of the game- though it has claimed that a player gets to build their own adventure in this open world. The official website has also said that the ending does depend on the actions of the players and give us a very “Fable-ish” feel to it because it claims that we can either be the force that unites the tribes or we can be the force which brings them down. The official website claims that this is an: “Unusual Story with an Unusual End” which is guided by a narrator as we make the choices which determine the fate of this world. So, replay-ability seems rather high for this game already with a limitless amount of possibilities since the world is going to be so massive!

biomutant_screenshot_13_1024x576

  • Conclusion:

—So, in conclusion I am personally excited for a game like this! Open-World games have always been a favorite of mine. I do tend to get lost sometimes in just exploring (and forget to do the campaign), but, that’s really the appeal of games like this. It’s all at your own pace, it’s everything that is done at your own leisure. I love the fact that I get to choose how my story ends, and the character customization being as unique as it is…well, it will mean a lot of fun experimenting to get that “perfect character” that fits a person’s personal play-style!

It looks beautiful, the characters are unique. I think that it has been awhile since we had a good RPG set in a fantastical world where it wasn’t all online. Don’t get me wrong, I love MMORPGs, but, I miss the old days of Oblivion and Skyrim, even Fallout and Fable…and just having that singular adventure.

I am also excited because this game mixes my two favorite genres being Fantasy and Post-apocalyptic-worlds!

But let me know what YOU think? Are you excited for this game? Why or why not? What would you hope they add into the game to make it that much better? Let me know in the comment-section down below, and as always, I will see you all in the next blog 😉

Clumzy Lion’s Fursuit was STOLEN (BLFC 2017)!

18881946_468148380200823_830516523189465008_n

Hey fuzzbutts! Please keep your eyes peeled for this fursuit that might be online (for sale illegally) or might be wandering around at cons. As of right now, it has been marked stolen by the owner, and they are trying to get it back…or, get a replacement.

This was posted a couple of weeks ago when it was found out that this Fursuit was stolen out of the owner’s car after BLFC. The owner lost a passport and some other important items…

The original post was shared around by Sebastian Shepherd (on facebook) in multiple Furry Groups as he asked people to spread the news:

SHARE THE FUCK OUT OF THIS.

Everyone be on the look out for this fursuit head. The owner had it stolen out of his rental car, as well as his passport, before hitching his flight back to Canada after BLFC.

Contact : http://www.twitter.com/clumzylion/ if you have any information!

Also an article on Sfist.com discussed the situation and was spreading the news saying that if someone found the missing Fursuit, that they would get a $200 reward…

Unfortunately when the con-times hit us, that’s also when it becomes the season for stolen fursuits. So, please be on the lookout for any post concerning a lost or stolen fursuit, take measures to protect your own fursuit, and just help share the news…hopefully the owner has his fursuit returned to him.

Please feel free to share this around…the more exposure this gets, the more likely we are to find it.

Crisis Fund: There was also a charity (GoFundMe) made to help the owner get a replacement head, a new passport, and to replace some of the other things that went missing due to his duffel bag being stolen. But the crisis fund reached its goal of $2,200 and as of today is no longer active. While we are extremely glad that the owner can now get a replacement, we still hope that the original can be retrieved/located/found and returned in good condition.

Protogens are the new craze!!!

18268570_759488417550985_379398431427875325_n

^^ Art by Malice-Risu on FA / Comparison chart for Primagen VS Protogen / Primagen are a CLOSED species – Protogen are an OPEN species with common and uncommon variants being free-to-make ^^

Have you ever heard of the Primagen Species?

While you could always check out the official document on them HERE …I will go ahead and sum it up for you: Primagens were made by extraterrestrial beings in another universe. They are artificial beings (with biological bits and pieces) that are tasked with a multitude of things across the universe. They have a very raptor-like appearance and are mostly machine – however, aspects of them still seem to be organic/biological. They have visors as faces that display their emotions…and they are EXPENSIVE!

They are a closed-species, created and run by Malice-risu on FA – and the only way to obtain a Primagen is to bid on the auctions they occasionally hold on their FA page. And let me tell you, those auctions are no joke!

While the creators are nice enough to allow payments plans, I have seen a single Primagen go for well over $1200! Granted, the more you pay, the more awards are unlocked with the purchase of one’s Primagen…but still. It can get really crazy. I myself never even knew Primagens existed until my buddy Captain told me about the Primagen suit she adored and then lead me over to the creator’s page on FA. Seems like everyone wants to get their hands on one, but, with prices reaching what they do…it seems that Primagen are only for the extremely dedicated or the extremely rich.

But, don’t blame the creators. They put the ladder up with a very affordable ‘minimum bid’ and it turns into a “pay what you want” situation. And who is going to turn down $1200? I wouldn’t…

But, I am getting off track. So…Primagens. So many people want one but can never get one. So, what would you say to getting the next best thing?

Well on April 8th, Cedar Andrews (also part of the account Malice-risu on FA) opened up a sub-species to the widely sought-after Primagens and called them: “PROTOGENS“!

So…why are they so special? Well, it’s because they are an OPEN species and therefore they are FREE to make! Well…the common and uncommon variants anyways. But, this seems to be good enough if not better for a majority of the fandom who are always teetering on the edge of ‘broke’…therefore the Protogens have exploded over the last few days, completely clogging my feed.

So…a species like this has to have rules right? Well, Cedar Andrews was sure to post those up along with a nice little anatomy chart detailing how the Protogens work:

Protogen Guidelines

☆ Protogens are an open species, you may make your own so long as it follows the species design guidelines.
☆ Some design limitations for protogens include:
– Generally no Dinosaur anatomy, as it reflects too close to Primagens.
– Their bodies are designed to be bipedal (Walks on 2 legs) so are unable to take a full feral form, but modded limb attachments can make a more feral appearance.
– STRICTLY biological ears only, Mechanical ears are one of the Prime design features of Primagen

protogen_chartupload_by_malisu-db52usg

Protogen means “prototype” so that in canon the Protogens were the first-version models of what would later become the Primagens. Pretty cool, right?

  • But…what are the differences to Primagens?

A lot of people seem to be asking the same question over and over and making the same observation…and that is: “How are these different from Primagens?” because, without reading and going on sight alone, there really doesn’t seem to be too much that is different, right?  Wrong. Protogens have several differences that set them apart…it’s only that most of it is what the Protogens have on inside and what they CANT do as a species. But, there are other differences as well.

  1. Primagens have more dinosaur-anatomy and traits. Protogens are not allowed to have ANY dinosaur traits or anatomy, thus why they have to have paws.
  2. Primagens are mostly artificial thus look more robotic. Protogens are still very-much biological. And no matter what, Protogens must have biological ears while Primagens have the robotic ears.
  3. Primagens have longer faces (because of the whole raptor-thing) and Protogens have rounded and shorter faces.
  4. Primagens can not eat or digest food nor open their mouths – Protogens can and must do this because they have working organs inside of them.
  5. Primagens can be hybrids and can also take on feral forms – Protogens can only be bipedal with no feral forms or hybrid fusions allowed.
  6. Protogens are not allowed to have wings unless they are of the rare variant (auction only)

So those are just a few of the differences between the species. People have still complained that this is not enough to really separate the two species, but what is done is done…and Malice-Risu says they are proud of their creation and of their species- as they should be!

  • Are there Protogen Adopts?

Yes, already people have been posting Protogen adopts all over the furry groups on facebook and in the official facebook group for the species. But, you are only allowed to put up 2 adopts for sale within a 7-day period. People may only make common and uncommon variants for adopt. Rare variants can only be obtained through auction via the creators.

  • Common, Uncommon, and Rare Protogen:

These can be found on the Protogen anatomy chart. Common Protogens are open and free to make. They have one set of ears and no horns. Uncommon Protogen are also open and free to make. The uncommon types have 2-sets of ears and can have basic horns. The RARE Protogen are closed and only available via adopt. Malice-Risu said these rare adopts will be at a set price unlike their Primagen auctions (but later they made them into auctions just like Primagen) – rare creatures have more than 2 sets of ears and they have horns, and they can even have wings! Other special traits such as extra visors have also been seen in the rare variants.

  • Where to find Protogen:

While you can find them by checking out Malice-Risu on Furaffinity – the best place to research the Protogen and see what other people are creating is by checking out the Official Primagen & Protogen Group on Facebook!

Also these little dudes have been popping up on instagram / FA / and Furry Amino.

  • MY PROTOGEN: PORTAL!
PORTAL by flamesvoices V2

^^Art by: flamesvoices (FA) // Portal the Primogen belongs to me aka RuneAngelDragon on FA ^^

So, I did it…I jumped on the bandwagon and my buddy made me a Protogen because like a lot of other people, I don’t have hundreds and thousands of dollars to get myself a custom Primagen. And you know what? I feel like this species better suits me. I like the more biological look and feel of it while still keeping the cool display-face. I don’t mind a shorter snout…and I prefer not having the dinosaur traits and anatomy.

So yes…just in case you were wondering what the recent explosion of creatures has been on FA and in facebook groups…no, they are not robot-sergals…and don’t let anyone try and convince you otherwise / they are probably the new Protogen 😀

Thank you all so much for your continued support on this blog! Thank you for taking the time to read up on Protogens, they are a nifty little species indeed! Special thanks to Malice-Risu for opening up these guys to us…

More to come in the future! And so, as always, I will see you all in the next blog! 😉

Run, Definitely Run – DISBANDING!

b68dfbb7a47b0d6c0be607f3d16b44e1c039fb9e

This news comes to my from my buddy Captain (who linked me to the post HERE) but, it would seem that the band called: “Run, Definitely Run!” is disbanding. The lead-singer of the group (known in the fandom as Omnom) made a post about it late night on April 7th talking about the decision:

band bye

There was not much else to be said. It was made pretty clear and people were heartbroken. Fans were trying to see if maybe this was just a late April-Fools joke, but, band members came in and told them that it was indeed true…and that despite the begging for them to stay together, they just had different visions.

But, the group is still close friends with each other…and that should be one of the most important things.

Run, Definitely Run! is a Nerdcore band based in Phx, AZ. and founded in 2015. But, that’s all I really know of them to be honest. I know they have been to several conventions as the star of the show…and recently at TFF 2017 they were the main performance taking place after the dance competition!
There was a lot of boosting for them to stay after the competition and listen in, and Omnom took to the stage to talk about their cover of the Pokemon Theme song which was going to be “phenomenal”.

Sadly, I wasn’t able to stay for the show, but, from what I heard from it outside of the stage and down the hall, it did not sound too bad. But luckily, my friend did find a video for their cover on YouTube so that you could give it a listen and judge for yourself:

I am pretty sure there are several videos circulating YouTube as well of their performance from TFF as con videos have been popping up every single day since the the convention ended…and, while the band has decided they will not be playing at BLFC, they are having one last performance at Club Red (East) / in Mesa, Arizona (next week on the 15th of April).

All we can do is wish everyone in the band the best of luck with their vision! I may not know them personally, but I hope they all find what they are looking for as they each pursue their musical dream! As for Omnom, you can find him via his facebook, and he not only does music, but, he has recently been doing small YouTube skits with popular furry YouTubers and fursuiters such as Majira Strawberry and Telephone!

Also, the band members linked can be followed separately if you are interested in keeping up with them. While I wish I had more information, there was no Wiki on the band, their Facebook and Twitter had not been updated very often…and their website seems to already be down.

If you would still like to support the band, they can be found via Spotify where they host their music:
Spotify

Also their album which is for sale HERE!

So, a sad day for their loyal followers but we wish them all the best and we look forward to the next thing they have to over to the world, even if it is separately! As band member Lynn Patafla said:

We’ve all been down this road separately, we’re still good friends! We just have different visions musically, so we’ll succeed on our own paths! We know not to let it go to waste. ^.~

That’s all I got for now, but thank you all for reading!
Thanks for your continued support and, as always, I will see you all in the next blog 😉
