NEW: Furry Gamer Series!

Hello again fuzzbutts!

It really has been awhile! In the time that I have been away, I have been thinking about bringing more content to this blog. Unfortunately, prior features like Fursuit Friday and other spotlights were on an older PC, and recovering them has been a bit of a pain. So while I work around how to get them all back and update them to maybe make an appearance on this blog once again, I have been thinking about what new content I could bring to this blog.

The solution seems rather simple: Video-games!

I am a huge gamer, in fact, I am more active on my gaming blog than anywhere else because I am always trying something new. That’s when a thought hit me…

There are so many games that have to do with anthro animals. In fact, several people found the Furry Fandom through popular games like Sonic and Spyro the Dragon. Heck, some even found it through newer titles like FNaF! So, while mulling all of this information over, I decided that some cool new content could be a Furry Gamer series where I discuss all the video-games (that I know of) that could technically be classified as Furry-related.

Not only does this give me a chance to talk about something I am passionate about and love, but it’s also a way to open the eyes of the viewer to all their possibilities. Maybe there are some gaming titles the reader may not know about…and this blog can be their gateway to discovery!

Is it too ambitious for me to carry out? Well, we will just have to see. Luckily I already have a lot of material on my gaming blog (linked above), so all I would have to do is link those reviews, discussions, etc while providing some insight into what the games are, what they cost, and what makes them furry-related.

As for how often I will post said-blogs…well, I already know that giving myself a schedule is a HUGE mistake! But I think this is something I can truly follow-through with as I already have a list of Furry-games written down. I also plan on asking the fandom to recommend me EVEN MORE titles so that I may add them to the roster…and who knows? If this series becomes more popular…maybe we can spread it to other platforms like streams, YouTube, and etc.

…but I’m trying not to get too ahead of myself.

So yes…I am still alive-and-well. I am still interested in bringing you Furry News and other such things to place a positive spotlight on our community, and I really hope you enjoy the new series just as much as I am enjoying the thought of bringing it to you!

But if you have any gaming titles that you think are Furry-related (or are even games made by Furries), then feel free to leave those in the comment-section down below.

I already have a list of 20+ games but could always use more!!!! Thank you all so much for reading, and I look forward to seeing you in the next blog! 😉

Blog Updates + Goals!

“Giving the finger to my crazy schedule”
**Art by: Flamesvoices**

Lets be honest for a moment…this blog does not always get the love and attention it deserves! BUT…because of this, I really want to take the time to go over some recent updates and then some goals I have for the blog!!!

I am still doing the Fursuit Friday Features and I need to start writing in bulk and then scheduling them for release ahead of time for them to get posted. Unfortunately I have so many artists I asked to feature that have not been shown yet, and they deserve just as much attention as the fursuiters. So, that is one of the updates and goals — the update is that I will not be asking for anymore features until my current queue has been cleaned out // the goal is to make sure and feature as many of those awesome artists and crafters as possible per week!!!

Another update is that I will be writing about TFF! The reason I put it off for so long is because I have been making videos about it and would like to add in the videos o the actual blog post. I was going to go and write multiple blogs about the con, but, best to knock it all out in one large blog that people can enjoy (if they want to make it through the whole thing).

Maybe it will be less writing and more video…but, then again, I am prone to change my mind often so, we will see where it all goes. ^^;

Speaking of videos, another goal and update for this blog is that I want to feature my YouTube Channel a bit more often. It tends to get more love than my blog anyways since it is the more popular of the two…and I actually made the YouTube channel to partner with my blog, so, I am a bit disappointed in myself for not posting more of my videos and writing about them.

One thing I have been debating about as far as blogs go is the update in Rune’s Fursuit. I was originally writing about it in order to educate people about the process on how to commission a fursuit (or in my case a fursuit head)—and since then, Rune has gotten a lot of updates/upgrades/ and some fursuit “Surgery”. But, because his extra parts were more of a gift than a commission…I’m still debating on covering these things. Then again his “surgery” of sorts is actually educational as I learned a lot about Fursuits and just Fursuit heads and wearing Fursuits in general over the period of time I had Rune…so, I might still do the updates on Rune’s fursuit as an educational thing…and I can also start doing maker reviews now as well since I have another fursuit on the way.

I guess another goal is to be more on top of Furry news and to find more things to write about when it comes to the fandom. I know that the Furry Fandom does not always change…at least not drastically, but I would still like to cover topics covering more than just what I have been doing.

I think doing more media reviews and reviews on documentaries would be good…and maybe cover some recent things such as 2Gryphon and his tidbit with Anthrocon would be good since it is still fresh and relevant.

So that’s really all I have for now…nothing major. Lets see if I can pull through with these things and actually bring them to life. But, if you have any ideas of what you would like to see more of, or, if you have any other questions, comments, etc…feel free to let me know down below!

Thank you all for reading and for your continued support! And as always, I will see you all in the next blog! 😉

I’m giving away a Dragon Adopt for 250 subs on YouTube!!!

***Art by: Holyhell111***

Hello lovelies, I know it has been awhile…

Anyways, I recently came back from Alamo City Comic Con and, I realize that while I have been mostly away and doing adult-things my YouTube Channel went and reached over 250 subscribers!!!

This is really amazing to me…like, WOW! I honestly can’t believe it. It seems like just yesterday I was at home opening up Rune’s Fursuit head, and then suddenly my YouTube Channel was blowing up with thousands of views on that vid and…yeah. It’s just insane that I have had so many different Channels with so many different themes…none of them ever reached more than 70 subscribers and now here I am with my Angel Dragon Channel with over 250 subscribers, replying almost daily to the comments you guys leave me…and it is just so wonderful, so amazing…

  • History of the Adopt:

—So, originally I had a creature made custom for me called a “Paradice Fragon” (species created and owned by Amber Compton aka ReapersGold) and I really loved it, but, over time, I just did not connect with it anymore. Not wanting to waste such a lovely design, I commissioned a friend (Holyhell111) to make the creature into an Angel Dragon.
She did such an AMAZING job but, unfortunately, I never used the characer and…over time lost connection with this new version as well.

I did try selling the character, but, no one seemed interested. I understand that it was probably due to the prices being too high…but, after awhile of trying to sell it, and no one biting, I decided to give it away as a Free Adopt to one lucky subscriber on my YouTube Channel to celebrate reaching 250 subs! 😀

  • Rules:

—The rules of the contest are simple and a winner will be chosen on Friday – November 4th, 2016:

  1. You MUST be subscribed to my YouTube Channel to win this adopt.
  2. On the Video for the Adopt you must write in the comment-section WHY you want this Dragon Adopt.

I want her to go to a good home! I don’t want her going to someone that collects a bunch of adopts but then never uses the character and she just sits in a folder collecting dust like she has been. That’s why I’m not doing a random number generator or anything like that. I want to try and make sure that whoever gets her is going to love and cherish her and not just turn around and give her away again…or worst yet…delete her.

  • Thank you Guys!

—Thank you guys so much for bringing me so many smiles and good memories from this YouTube Experience. It really has been awesome thus far! While my editing is still pretty crappy due to lack of a reliable video-maker, I hope that as time goes on, I can continue making videos…make better and more entertaining videos, and right now I’m taking suggestions for what to do when I reach 300 subs!!! I have some ideas in mind, but, would still like to hear what YOU guys would like to see!!!

Video for the adopt is down below…give it a watch, give it a like, and enter to win the adopt if you are a subscriber of my Channel. Anyways, as always, I will see you all in the next blog 😉

I’m Going to be in a Comic Book Series!

I’m going to be in a comic book series!!!

No joke!! This is so amazing and I am so honored to have had the opportunity to have my likeness and the likeness of another special lady in this amazing comic where Mad Maxx meets Lord of the Rings / this amazingly-illustrated world which is the “Lowlife” series.

Lowlife is a fun story set in a post-apocalyptic fantasy realm focusing on a group of villains and their nefarious deeds in a world where Lord of the Rings meets Mad Max. Short Synopsis: When a man with no memory of his past begins to find out that he was not a good person, he does what comes naturally to him. He becomes even worse.

—From the IndieGoGo Page

The world known as Thratas is a planet covered by sand, dust and death. What little green there is has been harvested by the lords of the lands to further their wealth and power. The weak die or become slaves, eternally in service to those of means. The lords create weapons and machines of industry in their great cities that cause pollution, making the world even more of a wasteland. Groups of orcs, elves, humans and other races roam the land, scavenging what they can to build their own weapons and ammunition to destroy. Slavery is rampant, both in the wastes and the cities.

Lowlife is a comic for mature readers as it contains graphic violence, nudity, adult language and some sexual situations. It is intended to be an ongoing series following the exploits of a band of criminals in a Fantasy meets SciFi/Post-apocalyptic environment.

I have already been told that I will be featured in the first book for a few pages and future books, so please, SUPPORT THIS PROJECT!

This is being created by people that have worked on official comics before, and artwork is being done by the ever-so-talented Avionetca (click her name for her DeviantArt) whom I have had the honor of watching stream a comic she was working on for a friend, the very same friend (Industrial) that got me to pledge my support to this project and is the reason my likeness and that of my wife’s can appear because the rewards are so amazing, they really do appreciate all the help they get in making this comic book and this world come to life!!! do you really need more convincing?

Do you like comics? Do you like fantasy? how about post-apocalyptic worlds? How about me? 😉 Then you will be BLOWN AWAY by lowlife featuring characters made after myself and my wife: Ruby!!!
They have 90% of funding for their first round and the second round will need just as many backers! I already know I will be helping, and, they have amazing perks/rewards for everyone that helps them out. So, if you want to know more, please check out their indiegogo page HERE:

Or their Facebook Page here:

Thank you all so much for reading and, if you can not help fund this AMAZING project, then, please help by SPREADING THE WORD! See you in the wastes 😉

ASK ME ANYTHING!!! [New YouTube Channel]

It’s a box!!! But what is inside?!?

Rune’s Fursuit Head of course! It’s done, it’s here! He is perfect, and, I can’t wait to share him with all my readers for tomorrow’s blog!!!!

But…that’s not what this blog post is about…well…it sorta is, and sorta isn’t.

The real news is that Rune has a YouTube Channel now!!!

After getting his fursuit head done, I decided to go ahead and make Rune a YouTube Channel to talk about all things Furry-related. This Channel would also include photo slideshows from when I might eventually take Rune out in public, future Cons and Furmeets, as well as some short skits just in general! I have big plans for the Channel, and already I have myself 9 subscribers after posting the unboxing video of Rune!!!

So that’s where YOU come in.

For Rune’s first official video outside of the unboxing one, I would like to do a Q&A while wearing Rune’s head! I feel like this would be a nifty and fun way that my subscribers and myself could get to know one-another a lot better and maybe then it could set off my channel so that I can get more people leaving me feedback on how I can make even more entertaining content for you all!
So, ask me questions…it can be about anything you want…food, furries, both? TV, real life…Pokemon Go, Furries, Angel Dragons…you name it, and I’m willing to talk about it really. 😀

So, if you want to drop a question for me…you can either drop a comment on this blog, or head on over to my YouTube Channel ( and leave me a comment there!

Thank you so much for reading my blog, for tuning in, and for all your continued to support! As always, I will see you all in the next blog 😉

Back from Vacation [Updates]:

Rune solo by Flamesvoices
**Pic not related – Art by: Flamesvoices**

Yes, it is true…I am back from vacation and finally back in my own home with my own internet and everything else. *sigh* Not going to lie…I am having a hard time dealing with the humidity of Texas and I wish I was still in California haha.

But, I still had 3 weeks of relaxation, getting to know some new and awesome people, as well as experiencing a type of lifestyle I have never known before. So, all-in-all, it was a really good time, and, I thank you all for being patient with me.

So, because I am now back (and there might be the possibility that I am a stay-at-home again), there are a few updates I want to put out there. Nothing more than just a sneak peak of what I plan to post in the following weeks:

  • More shout-out posts!
—I have been meaning to do this for some time, but, there are a lot more shout-outs that I would like to make. There are a lot of people that have either helped me out in the past or are helping me now, people that have helped the Furry Community and etc. I want those people to know that either way they are greatly appreciated. So, while I only have the one right now…I would like to make a lot more shout-out posts in the future.

  • Rune’s Fursuit!
—This is the most exciting thing ever and I am eagerly awaiting posting more on Rune’s Fursuit! It may be a spoiler but, Rune’s head is now FINISHED! So, I can actually post another chapter in Rune’s Fursuit development…and HOPEFULLY I will be getting him soon enough that I can even make an unboxing video, and maybe even begin to invest in making a YouTube Channel for Rune. But…that will be talked about in another post to come I’m sure…
STILL, I am super excited in showing more of this! 😀

  • Fursuit Friday will continue as scheduled:
—The Fursuit Friday Feature has been what most people look forward to in this blog, and, I’m really excited to say that a lot of people have helped me out in making sure we have plenty of posts for the following months. Naturally, I am always looking for more people to showcase themselves and showcase their suits. So, if you are a suiter that has not been interviewed or featured yet (or maybe you have been featured but might have a different suit of another character) then always feel free to contact me to set that up.

  • More artist interviews!
—I keep saying that I want to showcase more artists…and goodness knows that I have the interviews on hand, but, I always fail to post them as planned because so many things pop up. So, I really want to focus more on showcasing the many amazing talents of the fandom. Starting next week, I hope you will begin to see more artists. But, I only have a few reserved…so, if you are an artist that wants your things showcased, feel free to contact me as I would love to have you in my regular Furry Highlights!

  • Open/Closed Species interviews!
—I have been wanting to do this for awhile because there are so many unique species out there. I would love to showcase them all and talk about their lore, their designs, who can make them, how much they cost, and all the little details in-between! So, if I can get some of that stuff together, maybe I can start showcasing these different species soon!

  • Write an article for Anthrocon? Not me…but YOU!
—I am not going to Anthrocon, but, I know a good amount of my readers are. So, I was thinking about a project where you help me out AND you get to showcase yourself and the time you spent at Anthrocon for other people to see. You can submit photos and videos and maybe write a small article about your thoughts and feelings about the event, the things you did, and etc…that way others can see what Anthrocon is like from your own personal perspective. I think it would be a really fun project and would guarantee constant content for a few days on this blog and maybe for weeks after depending on who participates. Plus, it gets you out there as an artist, suiter, or just your average furry…and it would be loads of fun 😀
So, if you would like to participate in this, let me know and we will set something up!

Those are all the updates I have for now, and I hope that I can get you in some good content within the next few weeks. While being unemployed has me discouraged, at least it gives me more time to do the things I love, especially working on my blogs and being more involved with the Furry Fandom. As always, thanks so much for tuning in…if you have any more ideas on how to make this blog better and more interesting, please, let me know. I will see you all in the next one 😉

I’m going on Vacation!!! [UPDATES]

Orion by Patti Walters
**Orion art by Trigg3rhappy (FA) // Orion belongs to me**

Hey everyone…just a quick update before I forget!!!

First of all…that Dutchie up top is Orion my Greatball DAD.
I’m debating on using him for projects later on, but, he is my Dutchie bab and I figured I would just introduce him because the art I got of him is just too damned cute not to share!!!

I am going on vacation! I am hitting the road tomorrow and then I will be gone for the next 4 weeks! So, if you try and reach me in that time, I might not be able to get to a computer. On my Facebook page, if you leave me a message…my mobile phone sometimes allows me to respond to people, but sometimes not. Apps can be dumb, so, please keep in mind that I am away from home, and I will always get back to you ASAP.

But…for the more important stuff I wanted to talk about:

  • Updated Interviews!

—I am excited to announce that I have finally gotten around to updating the questions on my artist and fursuit friday interviews! After last weeks fursuit friday feature…I realized that the interviews were a little bit…”bland”. The artist interviews are better, but, even then they lacked character, and did not really portray people like I wanted to portray them. I wanted the readers to get to know these artists and characters better…get to know these furries better in general. So, while it took me 10 features to do this, I finally spiced things up.
More questions requiring more in-depth answers. I’m really confident that these new interviews will lead to a much more interesting read!!! So, be sure to check those out! I’m seriously excited. I think people are really going to love it!!!

  • Scheduled Posts:

—Because I am going on vacation, I am going to be scheduling some posts ahead of time.
These posts do not take me too long to put together anyways because they have the pre-written questions if they are interviews, but, I figured I wanted to at least put out Fursuit Friday Features if nothing else. I might try and throw in some other things as well, but, it just depends on how much time I have before I actually leave. I will still try and showcase these features across groups and other things like I normally do, and I hope you will all check out this blog while I am away and see what awesome people I have to introduce you to!!! 😀

  • Thank you!!!

—Finally, the last thing I want to say is “Thank you”.
this blog may not be the most popular, it might not be the biggest Furry blog out there, and there have been debates over certain topics and my seeming “too opinionated” to some…but, nonetheless, I have been blessed with some awesome readers. Those of you that read this blog, my followers, the people who liked my FB page and whom have shared this blog with others…you all are awesome! This is just something I do for fun, and, I promise that I do a lot of research on subjects before posting and I really do try to make my posts the least-opinionated that I possibly can. I may never be true neutral on certain topics, but, it offers discussion and debate, and you all seem to enjoy that…so, I don’t really think it does any harm to keep doing things the way that I have. But, for something that is just a hobby and is just for fun, you guys make me feel like I’m doing something good, that I’m doing something important…so thank you, thank you, thank you. You guys are awesome!

Anyways, thanks for tuning in! Be looking for those features that are going to be the scheduled posts until the first week of July! Hopefully I can get some other stuff in there, and if not, then in a month, I will have new material for you.
So, as always, I will see you all in the next one 😉

FA has been down…and stuff. [Updates]

Rune ref by DreamcatcherDAD

***Art by: DreamcatcherDAD***

So, to start off this blog on a happy note: RUNE GOT HIS OFFICIAL REF!

I have been meaning to get one for awhile, but, I either never had the money or just figured I would eventually change his character so, I never really bothered. Still…having thought long and hard about his design and such…then seeing how people draw Rune differently and the attributes they either added or left out for whatever reason, I decided to change some pieces of his design, add the plushie as an accessory (that goes along with his lore), and decided it was high time for him to get an official ref sheet.

DreamcatcherDAD did more than justice with Rune, and I really could not be happier. You can compare the changes in his design with his old ref HERE:
Rune Angel Dragon

***Lines by Nekomangaka // colored by Amelia Rene Long (myself)***

The biggest changes were with his eyes and ears…I wanted his eyes to actually have some sort of blue pupil inside the blue, and wanted the black to be better pronounced. His ears i wanted to point a little rather than round out…and the last change was a small one, but one that I liked. His paw pads. In the original ref they were pink…but people either never showed the paw-pads, or, when they did make them, Aimee-Lesley-Sim started the trend by first giving Rune alternating paw-pad colors of blue and green, much like his fingers. I actually liked the artistic liberty there…so, I made it part of his design. Lastly, his wings were made more specific, and they now sport blue tips. Over all, I think this new ref is perfect for him…but…enough about that:

  • FA Got hacked…

—Furaffinity had been offline for a couple of days, and just yesterday evening did it come back online. But, there was a lot of stuff missing. People lost watchers, art was deleted, comments were erased, notes mysteriously vanished, journals disappeared as well. There has been a whole mess of things going on…and sadly, ALL of my accounts got affected. Granted, I can not say that I am super disappointed because I know that people who do commissions got it WAY worse than I did. They lost contact with customers, lost their artwork, and even lost their lists of who ordered what and etc.I know a lot of people lost work that they had commissioned and did not have a back-up of. I always keep a back-up of my things…but, that is a tragedy really. But, on my accounts I lost a lot of the work I posted that other people made me as well as stuff I had uploaded for friends. While most of my accounts were okay…Rune’s account got hit the hardest. I not only lost the most recently uploaded pics…but, fursuit pictures are now out of order because some went missing while others did not. Rune’s ref got deleted so, good thing I always save everything I am given. Other than that…nothing seems out of order or harmed.

I know a lot of people are disappointed and are hoping this issue gets fixed. I myself am waiting for a few days to see if the problems correct themselves, but, we will see.

  • Rune’s Species debate:

—A few weeks ago, I was thinking very heavily about Rune’s species. I have been working on his personal lore and how it revolves around my mate’s Dragon-wolf named Escap’e // well, in the end, Rune’s species was determined by his semi-realistic piece that I got from Kitty Zoppe…and I determined that Rune is neither an Angel Dragon or Dutchie outside of the fandom. Rather, in truth…he is just an fuzzy dragon. Th reason for this is because his form was determined by Escap’e who saved Rune’s relic (his heart), and this act of kindness summoned Rune forth into the new world as a miniature version of Escap’e (just with ancient patterns). They became soul bound…but either way, I determined that Rune is really a Fuzzy Dragon…but that I like showing him off as an Angel Dragon (which gives him a more Draconic form)…and also as a Dutch Angel Dragon: where he is more horse-like.

Well…then it got me to thinking about all the people that have Fursonas and then represent the same Fursona but as different species. I know people that have one fursona…but that this Fursona has a human form, a demon form, a Kotae form, and a wolf form…people have Dragon form, and Bundog forms. So, Rune just having 3 separate Dragon forms…I did not think it was so crazy.

Well, sure enough…I posted this thought on the AD Community Group and the DAD Community Group. The AD group approved my post no problem…and many people agreed that they have the same sona only in different forms. But, the DAD group rejected my post…saying that Dutch Angel Dragons can not transform into other species and that Rune was either a DAD entirely or, he could not be a DAD at all. After that, whenever I wanted to post something to show off art…I was asked by Nimbus whether or not Rune was DAD…and then I had to say he was a DAD or else I could not post anything. Nimbus has rejected a number of my posts for silly reasons (in my opinion), and it really gets on my nerves. Rune does not “transform” rather he is interpreted in different ways by different people…and that should not be considered a bad thing. So…that whole issue had me pretty upset for awhile and still bothers me a bit now. But, that was something I was brooding over for some time.

  • Real life stuff…

—So, lets talk my reality.
So, here lately I have not been feeling all that well…and to tell you the truth, it has been because of my weight. I used to actually be average in my weight (which is 150). I was very active, had a job where I was walking all the time, I played sports, went running, and etc…but, that was 4 years ago, and, after 2 years in Germany and now a lot of downtime in Texas…I have gained a LOT of weight. I now weigh in at 225 and it’s awful. I feel…winded all the time, tired all the time, and really weak. So, because of this, I decided it was time to take action…serious action.

I tried dieting before, was working out before…but, I have just gotten so heavy that all-in-all, I was not seeing any results. So, I ended up dishing out $200 to get a Lipo-Den shot and 2-months supply of appetite suppressants. These things have helped soldiers lose 44 pounds in a month, and to me, it was an extreme decision…but it was one I felt I needed to take.

So, I have been on this pill for about a week…and it keeps me from having random cravings as well as giving me energy so that I’m not compelled to sleep all the time. Along with these things…I’m on a revised atkins diet and am required to do 30 minutes of cardio a day. The diet part has been pretty easy…but the cardio part…not so much..I’m still trying, but it has me stressed because I know my weight loss will not be as much as the soldiers. they do PT, they have access to a gym. I do not. Not to mention that I have to self-motivate myself at every turn to get up and get active. It’s not something I’m used too…and what keeps me paranoid is the fear I have wasted $200 and that i will not lose anything…not even a few pounds. So…I have not only not been motivated to work out (even though I still do), but I have not been motivated to do my blogs or anything else here recently either. It’s a problem I hope that I can get over and fix here soon.

  • Blog Updates:

—So, as far as the blog goes…I am going to try my hardest to get back into the swing of things. This blog takes a lot of time, thinking, and planning …and sometimes, I just do not have that time. I do have a job, I do have a wife…so, things can get hectic for me. But, I do want to post more…do want to get more watchers here. And honestly, I would like to see more views come of this from more than just me posting about bad things (like the prior Amber Alert posting which was my biggest hit yet).

Anyways, that’s all I got for now…thank you so much for tuning in. I hope to provide more content for you in the future…and I will see you all in the next one 😉

RUNE’s GoFundMe was DELETED!

***Art by: Otaku_Foxx // cropped for blog***

I don’t think I ever got around to posting about it…but a month ago (even longer now), I set up a GoFundMe to possibly help make Rune into a fursuit. It was not something that I had planned…but rather, was encouraged to do by a bunch of different people that thought it could help in my goals.

But…that GoFundMe was deleted…and here is why:

…I watched a YouTube video.

I’m not even kidding. That is actually the gist of it…that I watched a video and pretty much opened my eyes to how stupid it had been of me to make a GoFundMe for a fursuit. So…let me say this now: NO ONE DONATED TO THIS CAUSE.

I’m not surprised, nor am I angry…but yeah. No one actually donated to the fund even though so many people told me to make one because it would have been for a good cause, and I’m glad that they did not because it would have only made me feel more embarrassed. My whole goal was making Rune come to life to raise money for charity. People scoffed and said: “You can donate to charity without a suit”. And you’re right! I could have donated money, I do donate money to charity… but raising money is a different issue. As someone that has been a mascot before, I have seen how people are more willing to give money to a mascot, a cute, cuddly figure rather to a person. For some odd reason, people are more trusting of a fuzzy animal costume that they can take pictures and videos with than just a person holding a bucket, asking for funds for a good cause. Yeah, I could bake cookies…could try and sell SOMETHING…but, in my mind, Rune would have made a bigger impression, would have been something more that people would talk about, share with their friends, make a splash.

With this vision in mind, I made a GoFundMe thinking people would rally together behind Killeen’s new Mascot for Soldier’s charities and Animal Shelter Funds…but they did not. All money for Rune’s suit has come out of my own pocket…and even though it’s going to take longer this way…it’s for the best, it’s the right way to go about it. So…there’s that announcement out of the way.

So…as you may have noticed, there is now “Would-You-Rather-Wednesday” this week. I was dumb and forgot to ask around for answers…and have honestly been in a writing slump. So, while this week is not going according to schedule. There are other things that I have planned.

Starting tomorrow I will be posting my own personal journey into finding and joining the Furry Fandom. It may not be as cool or interesting as some of the other things I post…and I might actually wait until next week for this…but wither way, it’s something that I have planned for the future.

Also, it’s been awhile since I featured any artists on here…so hopefully I will get around to doing that as well. I don’t know what has been my problem, why I’m in such a funk…but, it happens and I’m working on it.

Another thing I might want to start doing is featuring YouTube videos on here. Ones that I really like and then dissecting what they said. I want to create more content that I write…more…freely? Rather than pre-set questions that people answer and I just doll up on my page. stuff is coming soon, more original stuff coming soon. More features will be arriving shortly, and be looking for my personal story on being a Furry.

Thanks for tuning in everyone…until next time 😉

Rune’s Journey to being a Fursuit #1

By Kristina Murphey

[[TL;DR summary: Rune’s fursuit head is being made and the steps of progress as well as when payments were made, the ordering of fur and etc is listed here so people can see how commissioning a fursuit head works!]]

Hey all it’s RUNE here with some exciting news!
I have been working on making RUNE come to life by commissioning a Fursuit head!

Yes, it’s small progress on what I hope will one day be a full suit of him, but, with little to no income right now, the head was the most expensive thing that I could even come close to buying right now and/or investing in. So, ever since I started this blog and realized that people loved the character and looked up to Rune and his advice, I started searching out fursuit makers to bring Rune to life!

It was hard…and now I understand why people really struggle in finding a good maker. Also, I understand why now people get wary about makers because investing in a head or anything fursuit related is all based in trust. But, because I know that so many people want a fursuit and yet are curious about the process…I decided to chronicle my adventure through the completion of Rune’s head!

But, before I go through the steps of Rune’s head…let me give you a brief overview of what to expect (as steps) in the general process of getting a head commissioned!

  1. Step One: Having a Character Reference (multiples actually)
In order to bring a character to life, you should already have a vision of that character…and not just one in your head either, but rather, one on paper that is of good quality. Reference Sheets are common in the fandom because it is a guide for artists wanting to draw your character(s)…especially if you have commissioned them. So, it’s the same for fursuit makers. Not only should you have one ref sheet, but you should give them multiple pictures of your character showing their personality, their structure, and naturally all their fur colors, and markings. I know that for Rune alone, I sent in over 5 pieces of work…talking about which pieces were more accurate to certain part of his face, which ones had his marking more correct as to how they were, my maker got the ref sheet as well, but, because it was colored in pencil, I wanted them to have more examples to work with…and they agreed that this helped a lot.
  2. Step Two: Finding a Maker
The thing about heads is that a lot of professional makers do not do “Head-only” commissions…meaning that you have to buy a partial (at least) from therm…and that could range anywhere from $800-$1000 easily.
I also got a lot of “recommendations” when asking in groups and chats for makers. The thing is…when people recommend you to someone, it’s not always someone that they have bought from personally. A lot of the time they are advertising for a close friend of theirs that might do fursuits…but the thing is, these people’s quality is not always good. Sometimes the quality of the maker was good, but, the style that they made their characters did not really match with the image I had for my character. So please know that when finding a maker…you SHOULD be picky. Also, make sure when finding a maker, you are following these steps!

a. Look for makers that you know you can afford (but remember that you get what you pay for).
b. Look for a maker than can make your character the way YOU envision them (find a maker that matches your character’s style).
c. ASK FOR EXAMPLES! (If a maker cannot give you examples of their work, do NOT buy from them, look for clean work, and do not settle for blurry pictures. Make sure you are seeing clear pictures that shows the quality of what they can do).
d. Ask questions…a lot of them (what materials do they use, how long the head might take to make, where do they get their fur from, how many fursuits have they made, etc etc)
e. Ask for a quote (always ask them to review your character and give you a price…compare that then to other makers you have been considering and make your choice based off of that and everything else).

Finding a maker for my suit took me months to do…but trust me, it will be worth it.

  • Step Three: Setting up a Payment Plan
Most makers already know that you have not saved up the complete amount for the fursuit. So, most of them (professional and non) will work with you on payment plans. While most can be flexible on when you pay, they will say that you must pay a specific amount each time…so no random $2 here or $20 there…but rather each time you pay you will be expected to make $100 or $200 payments until the fursuit is completed. Also be aware of whether or not the makers offer refunds for projects they might not be able to complete and/or projects you are not able to continue with because of life events. I will say that with any maker, there is always the “down payment” which is always non-refundable…this because it’s not fair that a maker start working and then you back out of a project and they get nothing for it. The down-payment usually only covers some supplies, so they are still in the negative if you choose to end your business with them before the fursuit is completed.
  • Step Four: Measurements & Agreements
    head measurements
For a Fursuit (any part of one), if you are commissioning a maker, they will ask you to send measurements. For a full fursuit, you even have to send the maker a DTD (Duct Tape Dummy) so that they can make something that will fit you perfectly. For a fursuit head however, the measurements are simple. Please be aware that most heads do not take into account glasses…so, if you want to suit up, if you don’t allow room for glasses, then you will have to wear contacts, or let your maker know ahead of time so that they can give your face some extra space (I did not do this). Suits are form-fitting…and even if something does not fit, sometimes a maker might be able to make changes if you return the suit…but again, be aware of whether it is in the maker’s policies to fix anything that might not fit right on the suit. But make sure you give your maker exact measurements…do the steps 2-3 times to make sure you are getting accurate numbers.

But about agreements…getting a fursuit can be a bit risky. It is all based in trust as you are sending someone money that you hope will actually send you a finished product (eventually). Fursuits can take months or even over a year…so, it’s best to make sure you lay down some ground rules with your maker before beginning. Makers with a large history of completed works like Skypro do not offer WIP (work in progress) photos…but that’s because they always get their things done. An independent or beginning maker might be a little different though…so it’s best to ask for updates as they work on your fursuit so that you know that things are getting done.

For me, I told my maker that I would only do so many payments before needing to see progress. Then I would send over the next payments and wait for more progress. She agreed with my plan and so we work together as a team, always communicating to see how the project is going. Please keep communication open with your maker. Even if you are just asking them how their weekend is…stay active with them. Ask them if things got shipped in, ask them if they bought that foam they said they ran out of, ask them if they found the right fur colors. You are buying their services and you have a right to ask questions. Occasionally ask for a WIP (work-in-progress) picture so that you can make sure it is turning into the character you want. But at the same time…make sure not to pester them. Do NOT expect a picture every day or even every week. A picture every few weeks or so is better than what most people get.

If there was anything special you wanted on your fursuit (like with mine, I want Rune’s tongue hanging out) make sure you have an agreement with the fursuit maker to do this, and, as they show you the WIP pictures of your suit, ask them if they have remembered the agreed-thing, and have made room for it.

  • Step Five: Waiting
Waiting is a real step…because as I said before, a fursuit can take months or even over a year to be completed. Especially if you are hiring services from a novice maker. Even with professionals…things happen, life happens, and you will have to wait. Things can go wrong and do go wrong…sometimes fur runs out and they have to wait for more, or their shipment of whatever tends to get lost. When this happens, you just have to be patient with the maker because it is out of their hands and their control. Will it slow down the progress? Of course…but they will start working on it again as soon as possible.

Waiting is where most people get nervous because the waiting is when all the scams seem to happen. That’s when suddenly the fursuiter is kicked out of their house and has no place to work or they get fired from their job and need more money because they can’t afford food and ran out of supplies. People have waited years for some sort of progress from sketchy makers and never got anything, not even a refund…so the waiting is the worst part…but, that’s why you always do the research and find a maker you feel you can really trust, then wish for the best.

  • Step Six: The Arrival
If all has gone well…and you have made all your payments on time, you have been patient through all the waiting periods, you have approved all WIP pictures, then eventually your fursuit will be finished, you pay the shipping, and then, it will be on your way! It arrives at your doorstep, you try it on to make sure it fits, and if it does then you dance and rejoice because you know have the suit of your dreams and it’s time to show it off!

And that’s it…that’s really all the steps that there are to getting a fursuit done by a maker. Does it take time? Of course! But better safe than sorry and better to get good quality than to pay for something that makes a mockery of the character you love so much.

Now that you know what the overview looks like…now I can show you the dates and how long it has taken thus far in getting everything set up to bring Rune to life!

  • My Maker:
—My maker took forever to find. I was asking everywhere about people that made Fursuit heads only, and, as mentioned before, it’s very hard to find someone that will only do a head for commission. I looked at Skypro but they stopped doing head-only commissions and would not be opening again until Fall…I found a bunch of other professional companies, but their looks were too cartoony for Rune, and they did not fit how I saw him in my head. I got a lot of different recommendations, but most of them did not fit the quality of what I was looking for…and so, eventually I was recommended by Arianna Holmberg to “AJ Vengeant” via the Official Dutch Angel Dragon Community group on Facebook (March 12th).
AJ and I started talking that very day on examples and prices, even talking about fur and how long it might take to make Rune. Total cost would be around $350 for the head and then another $50 for shipping. Rune could be done in less than 4-months. Which I was really excited about 😀

  • Examples of what I wanted:
—As it shows in the steps above, when I first started talking to AJ, I wanted to see examples of what the character would look like. I knew I would be taking a risk because while AJ had this amazing foam head that she had made for her Reaper character, she did not have any pictures of what the fur would look like once it was put on. But, I went with AJ because not only did she promise me WIP pictures every step of the way, this foam head was perfect and was exactly what I had been looking for in Rune. Other makers had been too cartoony, or the face did not look right. AJ assured me that the mouth (while it did not move) was wide enough to add a hanging tongue, and eventually I knew that this was worth the investment that this was what I had been looking for. I was taking a dare (and still am). But, I have the feeling that Rune will end up looking fabulous!

  • Picking out the Fur:
—With the reference of Rune, AJ and I spent about 4 days just picking out fur colors.
AJ would get online, would look at different shades of the same color, send them to me, and when I picked the correct looking one, then we would choose the quality ones with the best shipping prices…and/or make sure there weren’t more options if we felt a shade could be lighter or darker. We looked at fur from March 12th – March 16th just to find the perfect shades. This assured me that I was going to get quality for what I was paying for 🙂

  • First Payment: I made the first payment of $100 (the down payment) on March 16th, 2016 // because it was the down payment, this part would not be refunded if I dropped the project.
  • Second Payment:  I made the second payment of $100 on March 24th, 2016 // I told AJ that no other payments would be made until a WIP was shown (per our previous agreements). This means I would only have two more payments left to make and then to pay for shipping.

  • First shipment of Fur arrives!
—The first shipment of fur arrived on March 29th, 2016 // The grey is still on it;s way and AJ snapped this pic to let me know that it arrived safe, dry, and without any damage to it. It looks shaggy naturally, but it will be shaved down once applied to the head.

  • WIP of the foam head!

—I finally got my WIP photos on April 2nd, 2016 of how Rune’ head was coming along. It had not been smoothed, and the ears have not yet been added. But the crease in the nose, the nostrils, and everything else had been marked and smoothing would be happening shortly. Rune is on his way!!!

But, this was the last pic I got and the last bit of news I had received…and naturally I will be making more posts as progress continues so that people might see how everything is going and what all is being done to make this fursuit head a reality!!!

Thank you so much for tuning in!
Hopefully this was educational for those wanting to get a fursuit head commissioned or people just curious about the project. Just make sure you realize that AJ does not have a list of people waiting for products. Rune is the only priority project right now which is why the head is taking little to no time to make. This will not apply for all makers…so do not take my timetable as something you should expect. Every make will be different. As I said before, I eventually want to get Rune made into a full fursuit, but funding has been low. Once I get the suit, I plan on using it to raise money for charity as well as attending Cons and making promotional and educational (Furry) videos on YouTube!!!

If you would like to help me on this journey, I do have a GoFundMe set up just for bringing Rune to life! [[]]!! Thank you so much for reading, and, I will see you all in the next blog 😉
