Furry Highlight #9: Angiewolf

***Art by: Angiewolf***

Happy hump-day fuzzbutts! So, since “Would-You-Rather-Wednesday” is not happening again this week, I thought I would do something that we have not done in awhile. Furry Highlights! For those that are new to this…Furry Highlights is a feature where we take regular furries, artists, crafters, and etc. and we give them an interview to kinda show them off in a way…give them a spotlight to show the variety of different people in the fandom πŸ˜€

Angiewolf is an artist I have been watching on Furaffinity for awhile…her style is very unique to me, and watching her go from regular commissions to doing comics and etc. I think it’s been a pretty exciting journey thus far. Seeing the different styles and improving quality…it’s always an exciting thing for me (as Watcher) because I always feel like I am personally growing with that person. Not to mention, her Fursona is super cool! But enough chit-chat! Lets get down to the interview!!!

People see it as something strange, I think it’s just a way to express in a character

12. What are some problems you have seen within the Furry Community?
People judge a lot the prices, even artists have to endure meaningless comparisons and criticism

If someone criticize me for that, I would say to that person taking care of your life

Yes, for my future

***Art by: Angiewolf***

So, there you have it folks!

I have found that sometimes, there are deep feelings in a person…opinions just waiting to get out. Some people have had a lot of positive things happen to them while being in the Furry Fandom which they like to express, others have had terrible experiences which pushes them to work harder and to get word of warning out to others that might be facing the same thing. But, then there are people that are actually pretty neutral. They do not get involved with drama…they have had good experiences, and bad, but they let it all pass in their journey moving forward. So, it’s really fascinating to look at all these different artists.

Anyways…that’s all I have for today. So, if you would like to be interviewed for this blog, please leave a comment with a link to where I might reach you (FA/DA/Facebook)—my goal is to interview all different kids of Furries. You do me a favor by answering my questions, and you get showcased for others to see…to gain a better understanding of all the different kinds of people within the fandom.

But…Friday is coming soon and more Furry Highlights are coming.

So, as always, I will see you all in the next one πŸ˜‰

Angel Dragon Canon will be coming!

Yes, you actually heard that right…

This is not exactly NEW news…as this happened several weeks ago. But, it was still something I failed to post about that I want to bring to light now. So, as most people in the Ad and DAD communities…there has been this petty war going on. Anymore, I’m not pointing fingers. I won’t say it’s completely one person’s fault or the other person’s fault. In fact, I see fault on BOTH sides.

But…this whole debate came after a statement was released from the DAD Community, saying that regular Angel Dragons “were not a real species”

Now, as you can probably guess, this ruffled more than a few feathers in the AD Community, and cries of outrage ensued. Are Angel Dragons a species? Of course they are! But…unfortunately, the DAD Community did come up with some valid points. So, during a Skype call with others in the AD Community, this was my two-cents on it:

It’s going to be hard to make this stop…

…honestly, it is. There are points on both sides here, the more I am involved in all this, the more I see where both sides are coming from. Angel Dragons…is it a species? Yes…I believe so. I believe it could be…and I believe it is the chibi fluffy dragons that are mistaken as Dutch when not in feral form. I see them more as those people that like the looks of a fluffy chibi Dragon but do not believe in DAD restrictions and/or their characters do not fit in the lore. Also, they are Angelic in nature. So yes, it is a species. But, are Dutchies a sub-species of Angel Dragon? I would not say sub-species…but I might go so far to say a sister-species. But sub-species means it came from Angel Dragons…as if the fluffy chibi dragons somehow inspired a dragon-horse hybrid and I just don’t see sub-species working for something that was meant to be original. Whether or not its an unpopular idea…then it is what it is…but that’s how I feel.

However, there was a point made that Angel Dragons have NOTHING in common with one another…and that’s actually true. Not all Angel Dragons are Angelic in nature, not all of them share fluff or rounded noses. Some calling themselves Angel Dragons are just what people would normally see as a regular dragons. Some have pointed noses, some have round, some have blank eyes, some have cartoony eyes. Some use theirs as humanoid, some are only feral…some use theirs for NSFW still calling themselves “Angel” and some do not. There is nothing making us one group other than the fact that we come together as a family of people with common interests and a love for chibi dragons. But, the creatures themselves have nothing in common. So, it is a point they can make, and until that issue is resolved…we do not have much grounds for calling ourselves a species even though we are and we know we are. I’m not one for policing a species and I believe in freedom of creation…but like a wolf is different than a dog, so an Angel Dragon should be standing out from a typical dragon and there should be some common core rules that link us together as a species. That’s the only way we can combat what the Dutchies are trying to say about us.

So I agree we need to take counter-measures, but we need to analyze everything they said, make improvements where they need to go…really think about what it is to be an Angel Dragon outside of a regular Dragon (since that is the main argument of the DADs) and then go from there. But this whole petty war thing…it’s getting tiresome…and with the DADs White Knights launching the attack like that…I think they need to grow up.

I know that what I had to say made a few people grumble…but, they knew at the same time that what I had said…they could not argue. What makes DAD’s unique is not really their design (horse and dragon hybrids have been around forever…good luck being original in this fandom), but rather, it is their lore and their story. It’s the story behind what inspired them as well as their canon for their characters which involves the reason why they have rules against muzzle rings and no genitals…

So, after my statement…there was a quiet…and then Hyro (one of the leaders of the AD Community) made this announcement:

AD canon coming

Now, this has been weeks already…and the story is still under development. The problem I am seeing with this is because of how “individual” each member of the Community wants to be. When it came to the “Underworld Dragons”, someone said they wanted to be a “Nether Dragon” instead. So now we have a sub-species of Underworld Dragon…or not? This person wanted it to be its own unique thing…Not to mention we have the Tunnel Claw ADs which at least have their own canon story…then there’s Pearl which is unique because her ice powers came from her own back-story. So, I wonder if a Canon will really draw us together as species? I wonder what kind of story could even begin to relate us all to one another without it getting too unorganized? As of right now…with everyone wanting to be their own special dragon, dragon-hybrid, or themed dragon…I’m having a hard time seeing hope for a solid canon…but honestly, only time will tell what is in store for the AD Community.

But…just thought I would post this update.

The Angel Dragons have always been a species. Once the Community was forged and the majority pulled away from being a DAD it should have been long established that we were our own thing. But, as I said…with everyone wanting to be their own special snowflake…and not much in common with one another (including general anatomy), it has been hard for us to stand our ground as an actual, solid species…

Either way…this constant back-and-forth between the two communities needs to end. Whether or not they decide to come together to cooperate, they at least need to have some sort of truce, drop their personal past issues, and leave each other alone if they cannot work together as a team.

WYR is not coming again this week, so more artists highlights ahead. Thanks so much to the people tuning in, and, I will see you all in the next one πŸ˜‰

Just because you can’t afford it…

V2 Rune and Plush by Holyhell111
***Base/Line editing/ and coloring by Holyhell111***

just because you can’t afford it does NOT mean that something is over-priced.

One of the biggest parts of being in the Furry fandom is the artwork that people get. One of the biggest rules is that nothing that is quality is for free. Another big rule is: Do NOT beg for free stuff…and even worse is when you ask an artist to lower their prices for you >.>

Today I stumbled across something on FB…showing off custom clay figurine charms. They were really well made, had taken 8 hours using just simple colors. And even then, the person making them was asking people: “How much should I charge for these?” She had a good number in mind but wanted to know what everyone else’s opinions were. Was it expensive? Eh…to some it might be. But, for what you were getting, it made sense.

Most commenters were really nice. Telling her to charge per hour of work, for the materials, to figure in shipping. They were being very helpful. Then you get the furs like this one here that think that her work is “over-priced” and that it’s not fair to sell something for that much. If one thing grinds my gears for sure, it’s people like this that only offer their “advice” so that they themselves get cut a deal at the expense of the artist:

**The ‘ass’ in question is highlighted red.
**Everyone else is a different color.
**I never commented on this forum, merely watched.
P.S= Since this debate…the ‘ass’ in question left the group on FB.

…and someone said it the best: “Just because YOU cannot afford it does NOT mean that something is over-priced.”

For artists making something meant to be shipped out, it’s much harder to gauge what should be charged. Naturally, they have to buy materials, have to ship it out so that means buying postage, boxes, etc. So, in doing that…they need to charge something that will still make them some sort of profit. The price this person (the one complaining) was suggesting, would leave the person making nothing more than $4.40 (as calculated by another Furry)…which is little to nothing.

And…I hate to say it, but, a Digital Artist whose only materials include the tablet and laptop (computer) that they use—they can easily charge $40-$50 for a work that can only be downloaded online, and even then, they make full profit without having to cut the cost of materials or shipping. But, then again, I doubt this complaining Furry pays for their art if it costs that much either…

And don’t get me wrong…I hate that sometimes my favorite artists charge SO much for their works. But, it’s supply and demand. A lot of artists use drawing or crafting as their real income. Meaning it is their works which pays the bills and feeds them. On the other hand, I have gotten some amazing works for darn-near nothing, all because the people drawing it does not really use their art as a real income, but rather, for them, it’s a hobby. They are just not open very often because they tend to have solid careers and not a lot of free time.

So…if you can’t afford something, no need to get mad about it and complain that it is over-priced. If anything…if it seems like something so simple to you that you have to whine about it on social media…maybe you should go out, buy your own materials, and try making some of these things for yourself. Better yet, if you want free art…there are groups for that. Just know that, chances of someone drawing your character are slim…and those offering art trades, well, you won’t be getting that high-quality digital art that you refused to pay for before. Chances are you’re going to get a sketch that someone took a picture of with their phone…and it’s not going to be something you even remotely wanted because those same people were looking forward to that same thing too. It’s a harsh reality…but, if you want something, you need to save money for it. You need to find a way to pay for it…and stop expecting the fandom to be one big charity.

Those living off their income as an artist are not going to settle for less just because you say their art is not worth that much. It’s not their job to meet you at your level…but to find a good mid-point. So, if you’re saying that $20 is all you can afford, and they think their stuff is worth $60…chances are they will meet you at $35-$40 but can’t go any less than that or else they suffer not being able to buy anything they might seriously need in the future.

So, next time you see someone selling something…don’t say you will pay them $5 but then give them a lot of art for their efforts. Artists cannot survive off of the art given to them by others in exchange for payment. Also, if you don’t have a Paypal…good luck. There are some artists that do Snail Mail and Money Orders…but most of them don’t, and that’s because it’s too easy to be scammed. If you want to buy art, you will have to catch up with the times and find a way to send money online or else it’s a no-go. Lastly, making an artist friend does not mean they are obligated to give you free stuff. So many times I see people getting friendly with an artist and then trying to weasel art of them…THEN they wonder why it is they got blocked or their friendship got deleted on Facebook. Yeah…no…
Again, art is sometimes their bread and butter…and freebies can really hurt their business.

So, just be smart before you go about making mistakes that people can screenshot just to show how much of an ASSHOLE you are.

Anyways, thanks so much for tuning in…it’s great to be writing my own thoughts and feelings down again! Feel free to leave a comment down below…letting me know your personal thoughts and feelings. Artists features to be coming up next after Fursuit Friday…and as always, I will see you all in the next one πŸ˜‰

RUNE’s GoFundMe was DELETED!

***Art by: Otaku_Foxx // cropped for blog***

I don’t think I ever got around to posting about it…but a month ago (even longer now), I set up a GoFundMe to possibly help make Rune into a fursuit. It was not something that I had planned…but rather, was encouraged to do by a bunch of different people that thought it could help in my goals.

But…that GoFundMe was deleted…and here is why:

…I watched a YouTube video.

I’m not even kidding. That is actually the gist of it…that I watched a video and pretty much opened my eyes to how stupid it had been of me to make a GoFundMe for a fursuit. So…let me say this now: NO ONE DONATED TO THIS CAUSE.

I’m not surprised, nor am I angry…but yeah. No one actually donated to the fund even though so many people told me to make one because it would have been for a good cause, and I’m glad that they did not because it would have only made me feel more embarrassed. My whole goal was making Rune come to life to raise money for charity. People scoffed and said: “You can donate to charity without a suit”. And you’re right! I could have donated money, I do donate money to charity… but raising money is a different issue. As someone that has been a mascot before, I have seen how people are more willing to give money to a mascot, a cute, cuddly figure rather to a person. For some odd reason, people are more trusting of a fuzzy animal costume that they can take pictures and videos with than just a person holding a bucket, asking for funds for a good cause. Yeah, I could bake cookies…could try and sell SOMETHING…but, in my mind, Rune would have made a bigger impression, would have been something more that people would talk about, share with their friends, make a splash.

With this vision in mind, I made a GoFundMe thinking people would rally together behind Killeen’s new Mascot for Soldier’s charities and Animal Shelter Funds…but they did not. All money for Rune’s suit has come out of my own pocket…and even though it’s going to take longer this way…it’s for the best, it’s the right way to go about it. So…there’s that announcement out of the way.

So…as you may have noticed, there is now “Would-You-Rather-Wednesday” this week. I was dumb and forgot to ask around for answers…and have honestly been in a writing slump. So, while this week is not going according to schedule. There are other things that I have planned.

Starting tomorrow I will be posting my own personal journey into finding and joining the Furry Fandom. It may not be as cool or interesting as some of the other things I post…and I might actually wait until next week for this…but wither way, it’s something that I have planned for the future.

Also, it’s been awhile since I featured any artists on here…so hopefully I will get around to doing that as well. I don’t know what has been my problem, why I’m in such a funk…but, it happens and I’m working on it.

Another thing I might want to start doing is featuring YouTube videos on here. Ones that I really like and then dissecting what they said. I want to create more content that I write…more…freely? Rather than pre-set questions that people answer and I just doll up on my page. stuff is coming soon, more original stuff coming soon. More features will be arriving shortly, and be looking for my personal story on being a Furry.

Thanks for tuning in everyone…until next time πŸ˜‰

Fursuit Friday Feature #7:ReinboWusky

Hello everyone and welcome to the lucky #7 of the “Fursuit Fridy Feature”!
I had feared last week that we had run into our last one for awhile, but, I got very lucky that I ran into some very nice people, willing to be interviewed about their Fursuits! So, each week, I will choose at random, and of course, as we near our last one, hopefully I will have that same luck and be able to find more people that want to volunteer for a feature.

Now, I must say that this fursuit is extra adorable…the bright colors and just the playful personality it resonates! But, let us get down to the questions and get to know more about Reinbo Wusky and the person behind the sona!!!

2. Character Name: Reinbo Wusky

3. Character Species: sparkle wolf-Husky mix

4. Fursuit Maker: LunoVulpes

6. How long did it take you to get a Fursuit?
Since commissioning it, 9 months. Since becoming a furry, a year.

When I can. I live in an area where there’s not a substantial city for 90 miles, so I have to travel pretty far to attend meets and conventions.

8. Have you been to any Cons in suit?
I’ve been to Nan Desu Kan 2013, and RMFC 2014 and 2015.

9. How have people reacted to your Fursuit?
So far it’s been pretty positive feedback. I get some weird looks, but I’m a giant animal. It’s understandable. xD

10. What was your main goal in getting a suit? Did you have any plans for it or did you just get one for fun?
It’s just for fun. It’s such a blast to go out and make people smile, and I’ve made tons of friends through going to meets.

11. Do you make any videos while in suit (YouTube):
They’re mostly just convention videos or Q&A’s, and I’m pretty inconsistent with making them, but my YouTube is Reinbo Wusky.

Thank you so much Reinbo for being featured! πŸ˜€

I’m so glad that I got to see more Fursuits and got to line them up for future features on this blog! If YOU are reading this and are a fursuiter or know of someone that fursuits, and you would like to be featured in this blog (or see your friends featured), then please drop a comment down below with a link to an FA, DA, or Facebook link where I can PM you for the questions!!!

Thank you all so much for tuning in. I understand that this blog can kinda be hit-and-miss at times, but, I’m so glad that so many people have come together to read it!!! πŸ˜€
So that’s all for now, more blogs coming soon though, and until then, I will see you in the next one πŸ˜‰

Would-You-Rather-Wednesday #4

Heyo everyone and welcome to another installment of “Would-You-Rather-Wednesday”!!!
I will admit, last week was kind of discouraging as not many people answered the question. But this week made up for it by a billion. I’m starting to think it is the nature of the questions moreso than people liking or disliking this feature…but hey, we will just have to see in the future, right?

Anyways…this week’s question was really fun! Lets get to it and see how people answered:

QUESTION: Would you rather experience a sharp pain in your side each time someone says your name or have a bell sound each time you are aroused?

31. RUNE: I would say the bell sounding whenever I’m aroused. It’s not that I am a wimp about pain, but I don’t have anything to be ashamed of when something makes my mind turn dirty. I’m pretty sure that bell would be sounding a lot, especially around my wife…but maybe then sex would be more normalized instead of being something we have to feel embarrassed about. Not to mention it would make life a lot more interesting.

32. Ruby Alldredge: I would choose the pain and then just go by a different name. I would not want a bell sound to totally ruin the mood of my being aroused. I would like to keep my lady-boner, thank you.

33. Shizen Jorei: I’d much rather prefer the bell.
Though the clapper might fall off…

So there you have it. Another week of “would-you-rather” and it’s nice to see that this question caught everyone’s eyes so that they replied. We are doing this in the blog every week, and if you would like to be featured, then answer this question for next week’s feature: “Would you rather have a large 10 inch long belly button that swayed to music or have accordions for legs?”
this one should be…interesting???

Anyways, thank you all for tuning in! I loved getting to see all the different furries out there participating for this! More blogs to come this week, and as always, I will see you in the next one πŸ˜‰

Would-You-Rather-Wednesday #3

Welcome to another WYR Wednesday where I ask a question the previous week to be answered by the Furry Community! I’m still trying to get hold of this new feature for Wednesday, and sometimes people bite and other times not so much…

Right now it’s more about finding that balance of what portion of the community will allow these questions in their groups as seems to be my issue right now. But, enough about that…so last week I started asking the question, and this week, this is what we got for answers!!!!

QUESTION: “Would you rather be without elbows or be without knees?”

Michael Harris:Β  So we still have hands and feet right? If so I would say no knees. There both pretty important but elbows are a important part of playing video games.

Laura Lisabeth Mattoon:Β  I would rather be without knees- because without elbows I wouldn’t be able to a lot of work like painting, sewing, scratching my rump, etc. Just seems like an overall bad time- whereas without knees I could still get a prosthetic a bit more easily and manage.

Adrian Nash: I think if I had to pick one if go without elbows. I don’t know why but that sounds good.

RUNE: I would rather be without elbows. To me, I would still have my hands…so I could still grip things and hold things. Range of motion would be harder, but, I could learn to work around that. However, without knees, I would not be able to run…so, looking at it from a survival standpoint, being able to run would be very important. So, I need my knees very, very much.

Thank you so much to everyone that participated throughout last week for this week’s feature!!! If you would like to be in next week’s blog, please answer this question: “Would you rather experience a sharp pain in your side each time someone says your name or have a bell sound each time you are aroused?”
As per usual…be sure to answer the question and drop a pic of your Fursona down below in the comment-section (with the proper credit). I look forward to seeing all of answers! This next week should be really, really fun XD

Thanks for tuning in, and, as always, I will see you in the next one πŸ˜‰

Rune’s Journey to being a Fursuit #1

By Kristina Murphey

***Art by: Holyhell111***

[[TL;DR summary: Rune’s fursuit head is being made and the steps of progress as well as when payments were made, the ordering of fur and etc is listed here so people can see how commissioning a fursuit head works!]]

Hey all it’s RUNE here with some exciting news!
I have been working on making RUNE come to life by commissioning a Fursuit head!

Yes, it’s small progress on what I hope will one day be a full suit of him, but, with little to no income right now, the head was the most expensive thing that I could even come close to buying right now and/or investing in. So, ever since I started this blog and realized that people loved the character and looked up to Rune and his advice, I started searching out fursuit makers to bring Rune to life!

It was hard…and now I understand why people really struggle in finding a good maker. Also, I understand why now people get wary about makers because investing in a head or anything fursuit related is all based in trust. But, because I know that so many people want a fursuit and yet are curious about the process…I decided to chronicle my adventure through the completion of Rune’s head!

But, before I go through the steps of Rune’s head…let me give you a brief overview of what to expect (as steps) in the general process of getting a head commissioned!

  1. Step One: Having a Character Reference (multiples actually)
In order to bring a character to life, you should already have a vision of that character…and not just one in your head either, but rather, one on paper that is of good quality. Reference Sheets are common in the fandom because it is a guide for artists wanting to draw your character(s)…especially if you have commissioned them. So, it’s the same for fursuit makers. Not only should you have one ref sheet, but you should give them multiple pictures of your character showing their personality, their structure, and naturally all their fur colors, and markings. I know that for Rune alone, I sent in over 5 pieces of work…talking about which pieces were more accurate to certain part of his face, which ones had his marking more correct as to how they were, my maker got the ref sheet as well, but, because it was colored in pencil, I wanted them to have more examples to work with…and they agreed that this helped a lot.
  2. Step Two: Finding a Maker
The thing about heads is that a lot of professional makers do not do “Head-only” commissions…meaning that you have to buy a partial (at least) from therm…and that could range anywhere from $800-$1000 easily.
I also got a lot of “recommendations” when asking in groups and chats for makers. The thing is…when people recommend you to someone, it’s not always someone that they have bought from personally. A lot of the time they are advertising for a close friend of theirs that might do fursuits…but the thing is, these people’s quality is not always good. Sometimes the quality of the maker was good, but, the style that they made their characters did not really match with the image I had for my character. So please know that when finding a maker…you SHOULD be picky. Also, make sure when finding a maker, you are following these steps!

a. Look for makers that you know you can afford (but remember that you get what you pay for).
b. Look for a maker than can make your character the way YOU envision them (find a maker that matches your character’s style).
c. ASK FOR EXAMPLES! (If a maker cannot give you examples of their work, do NOT buy from them, look for clean work, and do not settle for blurry pictures. Make sure you are seeing clear pictures that shows the quality of what they can do).
d. Ask questions…a lot of them (what materials do they use, how long the head might take to make, where do they get their fur from, how many fursuits have they made, etc etc)
e. Ask for a quote (always ask them to review your character and give you a price…compare that then to other makers you have been considering and make your choice based off of that and everything else).

Finding a maker for my suit took me months to do…but trust me, it will be worth it.

  • Step Three: Setting up a Payment Plan
Most makers already know that you have not saved up the complete amount for the fursuit. So, most of them (professional and non) will work with you on payment plans. While most can be flexible on when you pay, they will say that you must pay a specific amount each time…so no random $2 here or $20 there…but rather each time you pay you will be expected to make $100 or $200 payments until the fursuit is completed. Also be aware of whether or not the makers offer refunds for projects they might not be able to complete and/or projects you are not able to continue with because of life events. I will say that with any maker, there is always the “down payment” which is always non-refundable…this because it’s not fair that a maker start working and then you back out of a project and they get nothing for it. The down-payment usually only covers some supplies, so they are still in the negative if you choose to end your business with them before the fursuit is completed.
  • Step Four: Measurements & Agreements
    head measurements
For a Fursuit (any part of one), if you are commissioning a maker, they will ask you to send measurements. For a full fursuit, you even have to send the maker a DTD (Duct Tape Dummy) so that they can make something that will fit you perfectly. For a fursuit head however, the measurements are simple. Please be aware that most heads do not take into account glasses…so, if you want to suit up, if you don’t allow room for glasses, then you will have to wear contacts, or let your maker know ahead of time so that they can give your face some extra space (I did not do this). Suits are form-fitting…and even if something does not fit, sometimes a maker might be able to make changes if you return the suit…but again, be aware of whether it is in the maker’s policies to fix anything that might not fit right on the suit. But make sure you give your maker exact measurements…do the steps 2-3 times to make sure you are getting accurate numbers.

But about agreements…getting a fursuit can be a bit risky. It is all based in trust as you are sending someone money that you hope will actually send you a finished product (eventually). Fursuits can take months or even over a year…so, it’s best to make sure you lay down some ground rules with your maker before beginning. Makers with a large history of completed works like Skypro do not offer WIP (work in progress) photos…but that’s because they always get their things done. An independent or beginning maker might be a little different though…so it’s best to ask for updates as they work on your fursuit so that you know that things are getting done.

For me, I told my maker that I would only do so many payments before needing to see progress. Then I would send over the next payments and wait for more progress. She agreed with my plan and so we work together as a team, always communicating to see how the project is going. Please keep communication open with your maker. Even if you are just asking them how their weekend is…stay active with them. Ask them if things got shipped in, ask them if they bought that foam they said they ran out of, ask them if they found the right fur colors. You are buying their services and you have a right to ask questions. Occasionally ask for a WIP (work-in-progress) picture so that you can make sure it is turning into the character you want. But at the same time…make sure not to pester them. Do NOT expect a picture every day or even every week. A picture every few weeks or so is better than what most people get.

If there was anything special you wanted on your fursuit (like with mine, I want Rune’s tongue hanging out) make sure you have an agreement with the fursuit maker to do this, and, as they show you the WIP pictures of your suit, ask them if they have remembered the agreed-thing, and have made room for it.

  • Step Five: Waiting
Waiting is a real step…because as I said before, a fursuit can take months or even over a year to be completed. Especially if you are hiring services from a novice maker. Even with professionals…things happen, life happens, and you will have to wait. Things can go wrong and do go wrong…sometimes fur runs out and they have to wait for more, or their shipment of whatever tends to get lost. When this happens, you just have to be patient with the maker because it is out of their hands and their control. Will it slow down the progress? Of course…but they will start working on it again as soon as possible.

Waiting is where most people get nervous because the waiting is when all the scams seem to happen. That’s when suddenly the fursuiter is kicked out of their house and has no place to work or they get fired from their job and need more money because they can’t afford food and ran out of supplies. People have waited years for some sort of progress from sketchy makers and never got anything, not even a refund…so the waiting is the worst part…but, that’s why you always do the research and find a maker you feel you can really trust, then wish for the best.

  • Step Six: The Arrival
If all has gone well…and you have made all your payments on time, you have been patient through all the waiting periods, you have approved all WIP pictures, then eventually your fursuit will be finished, you pay the shipping, and then, it will be on your way! It arrives at your doorstep, you try it on to make sure it fits, and if it does then you dance and rejoice because you know have the suit of your dreams and it’s time to show it off!

And that’s it…that’s really all the steps that there are to getting a fursuit done by a maker. Does it take time? Of course! But better safe than sorry and better to get good quality than to pay for something that makes a mockery of the character you love so much.

Now that you know what the overview looks like…now I can show you the dates and how long it has taken thus far in getting everything set up to bring Rune to life!

Reaper by Aire

  • My Maker:
—My maker took forever to find. I was asking everywhere about people that made Fursuit heads only, and, as mentioned before, it’s very hard to find someone that will only do a head for commission. I looked at Skypro but they stopped doing head-only commissions and would not be opening again until Fall…I found a bunch of other professional companies, but their looks were too cartoony for Rune, and they did not fit how I saw him in my head. I got a lot of different recommendations, but most of them did not fit the quality of what I was looking for…and so, eventually I was recommended by Arianna Holmberg to “AJ Vengeant” via the Official Dutch Angel Dragon Community group on Facebook (March 12th).
AJ and I started talking that very day on examples and prices, even talking about fur and how long it might take to make Rune. Total cost would be around $350 for the head and then another $50 for shipping. Rune could be done in less than 4-months. Which I was really excited about πŸ˜€

Head by AJ Vengeant

***Reaper foam head made by AJ Vengeant***

  • Examples of what I wanted:
—As it shows in the steps above, when I first started talking to AJ, I wanted to see examples of what the character would look like. I knew I would be taking a risk because while AJ had this amazing foam head that she had made for her Reaper character, she did not have any pictures of what the fur would look like once it was put on. But, I went with AJ because not only did she promise me WIP pictures every step of the way, this foam head was perfect and was exactly what I had been looking for in Rune. Other makers had been too cartoony, or the face did not look right. AJ assured me that the mouth (while it did not move) was wide enough to add a hanging tongue, and eventually I knew that this was worth the investment that this was what I had been looking for. I was taking a dare (and still am). But, I have the feeling that Rune will end up looking fabulous!

  • Picking out the Fur:
—With the reference of Rune, AJ and I spent about 4 days just picking out fur colors.
AJ would get online, would look at different shades of the same color, send them to me, and when I picked the correct looking one, then we would choose the quality ones with the best shipping prices…and/or make sure there weren’t more options if we felt a shade could be lighter or darker. We looked at fur from March 12th – March 16th just to find the perfect shades. This assured me that I was going to get quality for what I was paying for πŸ™‚

  • First Payment: I made the first payment of $100 (the down payment) on March 16th, 2016 // because it was the down payment, this part would not be refunded if I dropped the project.
  • Second Payment:Β  I made the second payment of $100 on March 24th, 2016 // I told AJ that no other payments would be made until a WIP was shown (per our previous agreements). This means I would only have two more payments left to make and then to pay for shipping.

  • First shipment of Fur arrives!
—The first shipment of fur arrived on March 29th, 2016 // The grey is still on it;s way and AJ snapped this pic to let me know that it arrived safe, dry, and without any damage to it. It looks shaggy naturally, but it will be shaved down once applied to the head.

  • WIP of the foam head!

—I finally got my WIP photos on April 2nd, 2016 of how Rune’ head was coming along. It had not been smoothed, and the ears have not yet been added. But the crease in the nose, the nostrils, and everything else had been marked and smoothing would be happening shortly. Rune is on his way!!!

But, this was the last pic I got and the last bit of news I had received…and naturally I will be making more posts as progress continues so that people might see how everything is going and what all is being done to make this fursuit head a reality!!!

Thank you so much for tuning in!
Hopefully this was educational for those wanting to get a fursuit head commissioned or people just curious about the project. Just make sure you realize that AJ does not have a list of people waiting for products. Rune is the only priority project right now which is why the head is taking little to no time to make. This will not apply for all makers…so do not take my timetable as something you should expect. Every make will be different. As I said before, I eventually want to get Rune made into a full fursuit, but funding has been low. Once I get the suit, I plan on using it to raise money for charity as well as attending Cons and making promotional and educational (Furry) videos on YouTube!!!

If you would like to help me on this journey, I do have a GoFundMe set up just for bringing Rune to life! [[]]!! Thank you so much for reading, and, I will see you all in the next blog πŸ˜‰
